Deaths and funerals
Joe W. Aragon
Joe W. Aragon, age 87, a lifelong resident of Peralta, passed away on Aug. 20 with his loving family by his side.
Joe was born on Oct. 9, 1923. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Joe served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII as a sergeant in the 8th Cavalry.
His passion in life was growing the best alfalfa in the valley.
He loved to work his land, harvest his crop and, most of all, to socialize with people from all walks of life who dropped by to purchase hay from him.
He was an avid sports fan, and keen observer of national politics and events; but above all, he was fully committed to his faith in God and to his family and friends.
Words cannot express how deeply Joe will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Timoteo and Sinforosa (Chavez) Aragon; his siblings, Mary Nephew and her husband, Chester, Lydia Tapia and her husband, Bennie, and Sinforosa Apodaca and her husband, Johnny, Sister Mary Aquinas, Timoteo Aragon and his wife, Katalina; and his eldest son, Joseph Aragon Jr.
Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lugarda “Luge” (Gurule); sons, Rudy and his wife, Tina, and Chuck and his wife, Kathy. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Alexa, Danielle, Christina, Angelica, Santos (Christen) and Isaac. The apples of his eye were his great-granddaughters, Jadyn and Kamryn.
All services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 23, including a visitation, a Rosary and a Funeral Mass. Interment took place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eloy Tapia, Charles Apodaca, Ray Aragon, Salomon Molina, Greg Gurule and Pete Torres Jr.
