All three Valencia County high school football teams picked up wins on Friday, Sept. 9.

The Belen Eagles received the toughest test, winning 21-12 at home over Moriarty, while the Valencia Jaguars rolled to a 48-13 home win over Bernalillo. The Los Lunas Tigers won 49-0 at Bloomfield.

Belen went scoreless in the first quarter for the first time in recent memory, falling behind Moriarty 6-0, but a 21-yard scoring run by Valentino Barron in the second period helped the Eagles forge a 7-6 halftime lead.

A short run by Barron, along with a 48-yard TD scamper by Nick Kurtz down the left sideline put Belen up 21-6. The Pintos managed a late touchdown.

Andrew Castillo had an interception deep in Eagle territory to kill a third-quarter Pinto drive.

Belen rushed for 277 yards, led by Kurtz with 135, Xavier Armijo with 91 and Barron with 51. The Pintos’ 258 total yards was entirely on the ground, and the Eagles struggled with tackling at times.

Fifth-ranked Valencia only led Bernalillo 20-7 at the half, but the Jaguars’ powerful rushing game helped them pull away. Noah Brown and Roberto Carrasco each rushed for three touchdowns, and Carrasco ran for a pair of two-point conversions.

The Jags had 300 yards of total offense the Spartans’ 234. Bernalillo had 67 yards in penalties.

The Jaguars host Capital for their Friday, Sept. 16 Homecoming game.

Class 4A Los Lunas played in a steady rain en route to a 29-0 halftime lead at 3A Bloomfield. The sixth-ranked Tigers (2-1) host Del Norte at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15.
