Jaguars race past Capital in Homecoming game
Valencia High’s football team absolutely dominated its opponent Friday.
The host Jaguars (4-0) dominated from the opening kickoff, scoring on its first six possessions of a 52-6 win over Capital in the 2011 VHS Homecoming game.
Valencia scored a ridiculous 31 points in the first quarter. A 29-yard Caleb Crum field goal, touchdown runs by Noah Brown and Robert Carrasco, along with scoring passes from Jude Pepke to Isaac Gonzales and Carrasco, all came in the first period.
The host Jaguars, ranked No. 4 in this week’s Class 4A coaches association poll, led 45-0 at the half. Brown scored on an 11-yard run and Pepke threw to Gonzales for second-quarter scores.
Valencia could have easily ended the game at various points per the 50-point mercy rule, but the entire second half was played with a running clock.
Carrasco added a fourth-quarter TD run. Kai Benally had an interception for Valencia, and Crum made all six of his extra-point kick attempts, with Pepke making the other.
Capita (0-4)l, also called the Jaguars, got a 21-yard scoring pass from Anthony Segura to Ryan Gonazles in the fourth quarter for the only points for Capital (0-4).
The Jags had 442 yards of offense, and Pepke’s 4-of-5, 121 yards passing included three TD passes. Valencia’s defense held Capital to one first down in the opening half.
The Jags are set to play their final non-district game on the season on Friday, Sept 23, at Bloomfield.
