Sewing group receives letter from thankful soldier
The Del Rio Senior Center Sewing Ladies received two very special letters from a wounded soldier and his mother. The ladies, who make quilts every Tuesday and Wednesday, said "it was a very special surprise and honor to receive these letters."
The group sews lap blankets for soldiers who are in hospitals overseas. Blue Star Mothers work closely with the local group by getting the blankets to the wounded soldiers. They also distribute blankets to New Mexico Hospice, who gives them to nursing homes in the area.
"We have a small group of volunteers who donate their time for others who are less fortunate," said Lois Pettis, one of the members of the Del Rio Senior Center Sewing Ladies. "We have a small shop at our senior center where we sell items to help us purchase the batting for our quilts."
The group accepts donations of material and sewing supplies to help with their projects.
