Since 1997, the Valencia County News-Bulletin has been distributed predominantly free of charge.
Back in those days, it was a good model to penetrate a market and have it almost solely supported by advertising revenue. Times and technology have changed this model … advertising alone cannot sustain profitability, but the reality of charging for access to our valuable and unique local content is here to stay. In the near future, we will no longer give access to our website free of charge. We will also push for more paid print subscriptions of the News-Bulletin by randomly discontinuing free copies. Our readers will have to support us if they want the information that only we provide. Subscribing to either print or web (or both) will be the only way to guarantee access to our information. No one else does what we do … we invest in the important work of providing fair, accurate, objective, timely and complete journalism to our readers. This is our charge. This is why we win so many awards. We are the only credible, reliable source of local news and advertising information in the area. We need your support to continue the work of documenting local history and performing our watchdog function. We are a for-profit business that has served Valencia County for more than 100 years. For a mere $42 per year, you can have both print and web. In our opinion, it’s a small investment to stay connected and informed on all things local. Whether it’s the hospital, county, municipalities, politics, schools, history, agriculture, business, sports, opinion or advertising … we have it all! That’s 52 issues a year ― every Thursday ― plus all of our special sections along with full access to www.news-bulletin.com and breaking news.
