Newtons celebrate 65 years of marriage
John “Jack” and Marilyn Newton of Peralta celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Dec. 28. The couple was married in 1946 in South Bend, Ind.
Jack worked as a machinist and he is retired from Sandia National Laboratories after 22 years of service. He is a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He is also a lifetime member of the Free Masons and Mason Lodge No. 68.
Marilyn retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools as a manager in the elementary school cafeteria after 24 years.
They are members of the Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church.
Their children are Jackie Cassidy of Peralta, Larry and Gladys Newton of Lawton, Okla., Terry Newton of Peralta, Sandra Newton of Corpus Christi, Texas, Bruce and Angela Newton of Brenham, Texas.
They have nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
They will celebrate their anniversary in June when their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to New Mexico for a family reunion and to celebrate Jack’s 90th birthday.
Jack and Marilyn moved to New Mexico in 1959. They lived in Albuquerque for about 10 years before moving to Bosque Farms, where they lived until 1979.
After retirement, they traveled around the country, where thy enjoyed fishing, gardening, square dancing and visiting their family and friends.
Jack and Marilyn moved back to New Mexico in 2007, making their home in Peralta.
