20 candidates file for municipal elections

In the four municipalities across Valencia County, a total of 20 people declared candidacy for the positions of mayor, councilor and municipal judge.
Candidates have until Tuesday, Jan. 17, to withdraw from the race. That is the same day anyone wishing to run as a write-in candidate must file.
Absentee ballots by mail start Tuesday, Jan. 31, and early voting begins on Wednesday, Feb. 15.  Municipal elections will be held Tuesday, March 6.

Belen
In the race for two at-large council positions in Belen, six filed the necessary paperwork for candidacy, including David J. Carter, Councilor Wayne R. Gallegos, Dubra Karnes-Padilla, Audrey D. Torres, former Mayor Ronnie Torres and former Councilor A. Terese “Tinky” Ulivarri.
Voters will cast ballots for two council positions, which are currently held by Lorenzo Carrillo, who is not running for re-election, and Gallegos.

Bosque Farms
In the race for mayor in Bosque Farms, current  Councilor Robert “Bob” Knowlton is the only candidate.
Mayor Wayne Ake, who is not seeking a third term as mayor, and Councilor Dolly Wallace are running for the two at-large council positions, currently held by Knowlton and Wallace.
Attorney Lar Thomas is the only person running for municipal judge. Judge Robert Kavanagh is not seeking re-election.

Los Lunas
Voters in Los Lunas will vote for two council positions. Because of redistricting, Councilor Cecilia “CC” Castillo could not run in the current District 1 position.
Candidates in District 1 include Helen Y. Cole and Amanda M. Perea.
The only candidate in the District 3 race is current Councilor Gerard Saiz.

Peralta
The newest municipality, the town of Peralta, will hold elections for mayor, two at-large council positions and municipal judge.
Those running for mayor are current Mayor Bryan Olguin and former Mayor Edward Archuleta.
Councilor Christian Garcia, Tracy Aragon and Lorenzo A. Moya are vying for the two council positions. Councilor Pug Burge is not seeking re-election.
Municipal judge candidates are current Judge David Young and Claudio Moya.
