Brown, others announce college choices
Noah Brown and a few other Class of 2012 athletes have announced where they’re headed for college.
Perhaps the most widely sought Valencia County senior this year is Valencia High football star Noah Brown.
He told the News-Bulletin late Tuesday that he’ll attend Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, where Kelley Lee is the new offensive coordinator.
Lee was the head coach for Brown and the rest of the Valencia High football program for three seasons before resigning in December to move to Eastern.
Brown, as a fullback and a defensive end for Valencia, earned numerous awards for the state-semifinalist Jaguars in 2011. He was named first-team all-state and was the State Farm Class 3A/4A Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 1-inch Brown is also a basketball standout.
His football teammate, two-way star Jude Pepke, is also headed to play at Eastern. Pepke recently signed a letter of intent.
Another Jaguar star, baseball player Jorge Venegas, has signed a letter of intent to play at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo. The hard-throwing righthander is known mainly as a pitcher, but is a solid second baseman as well.
Belen High football coach John Lerma recently told the News-Bulletin that lineman Dustin Breeze has made a verbal commitment to Eastern.
