Valencia girls basketball results from 3-6-12
Tuesday, the Valencia High girls basketball team was looking to advance past the Class 4A state quarterfinals for the first time.
It took overtime for No. 2 Roswell to overcome the upset bid put up by No. 7-seed Valencia, but the Coyotes survived in the Pit, 51-50.
Michelle Traynham led the Lady Jaguars with 24 points, but her team was unable to score on the game’s final possession.
Traynham was double-teamed near the top of the key as the clock wound down. She passed to Bryana Johnson, whose potential game-winning shot was partially blocked just before the final buzzer.
Traynham hit a go-ahead 3-pointer to put the Jags up 50-49 with 23 seconds left in overtime. But the Jags could not deny the ball from Roswell’s Myla Woods-Brown, who banked in a putback with 10 seconds left. The Coyote post ended the game with 12 points after going scoreless in the first half.
