Odell Edwards, age 95, a resident of Mountainair since 1921, passed away on Saturday, March 17.
Mrs. Edwards was a past member of the PEO Sisterhood, Mountainair Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. She had also served on the Mountainair Town Council and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountainair.
She and her husband, Henry, purchased the Mountainair Grocery and Bakery in the 1940s and ran it until 1970. Mrs. Edwards also enjoyed crocheting, fishing and painting.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Henry C. Edwards, in 1983; and a son, Thomas Harry Edwards in 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Gayle Jones and husband, Wayne, of Mountainair; grandson, Clifford Jones and wife, Lauren, and their children, Hope Anne and Henry Nolan, of Portales; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
All services were be held on Tuesday, March 20 at the Mountainair Church of the Nazarene, with Pastors Paul Baker and Alan Granat officiating. Interment followed at the Mountainair Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sam Blackshear, Richard Shovelin, David Young, Pat Harrison, Carl Holland and David Alderete. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Moya and members of the Mountainair Volunteer Fire Department.

Lugardita “Lugi” O. Garcia
Lugardita “Lugi” O. Garcia, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother went home to our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 18.
She passed away in the presence of her loving daughter, Frances, son-in-law, Gilbert Jaramillo and twin grandsons, Bobby and Michael Jaramillo, whom she loved dearly for giving her such a good quality of life during her final years. She was 91 years old.
Lugardita was born in Atarke, N.M. She married Jose Leon Garcia and moved to Belen, where she had 13 children. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.
After the death of her husband, she raised her children alone in Belen and Adelino. Later, she moved to Los Lunas, where she worked at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School with the Foster Grandparent program. After she retired from the Foster Grandparent program, she lived with her son, Pablo Garcia, and his companion, Valerie Sanchez, who became her caregiver.
Lugardita was known for her love of cooking. Her family was especially fond of her homemade bread, doughnuts, tortillas, beans and chile. When it was time to eat, she suddenly had more children.
Lugardita was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jose Leon Garcia; father, Miguel Ortiz; mother, Filomena Campos; sons, Lawrencito Garcia, Leonardo Garcia and Erminio Garcia; brothers, Emilio Ortiz, Benny Ortiz and Adolfo Lucero; sisters, Carlota Chavez, Barbara Ortiz; and beloved daughter-in-law, Rita Garcia.
Lugardita is survived by her 10 children, Ernest Garcia, Jerry Garcia and his wife, Yolanda, Mike Garcia and his wife, Gloria, Elvira Jaramillo and her husband, Ricky, Pablo Garcia and his companion, Valerie, Anthony Garcia and his wife, Colleen, Joe Garcia and his wife, Lorraine, Jake Garcia and his wife, Norma, Frances Jaramillo and her husband, Gilbert, and Norma Blea and her husband, Tony. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday, March 23, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Mark Clint Jolly, 53, passed away at his home on Monday, March 12.
Mark was a big, kind-hearted man, who loved to sing and play his guitar.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd “Buck” Jolly, his mother, Jeanne Jolly, and his brother-in-law, Jim Drannon.
Mark is survived by his wife, Patricia; his sister, Dana Drannon; his children, Andrew Jolly, Cal Jolly and his wife, Scotty, and their children, Dante and Keeley, Jimmy Bridge and his wife, Kendra, and their children, Marina and Tayton, Amanda Dunlap and her husband, Richard, and their children Hitch, Tripp and Skeet. He is also survived by two nieces, Jeanne and Joann, and two great-nieces; his step-children, Virginia Bickle and her husband, Ray, and their children, Joshua, Jacob and Gabriel, Burnett Crispell and William Crispell. Mark also left behind other family and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday March 24, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. Please bring a potluck dish and your memories of Mark to share.
Patricia “Elaine” Lassard
Patricia “Elaine” Lassard, age 60, a resident of Sneads Ferry, N. C., went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 15, after her short battle with cancer.
She was known for her compassion for others, including her family, friends and her cats. Elaine was a cook for many years and was the best at what she did.
She loved, and was loved by everyone she came in contact with and always took the time to make you laugh.
Elaine was preceded in death by her father, Thurman “Cooter” Davis Sr.; and her mother, Florence June Hobbs. She is survived by her three children, Jeffery Lassard and his wife, Sharon, of Los Lunas, Barbara Lassard of Raleigh, N.C., and John Joseph Lassard of Wilmington, N.C.; sisters, Frances Rouse and her husband, Burnice, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Virginia “Jenny” Henderson and her husband Ron of Rossville, Ga.; and her brother, Thurman “Butch” Davis Jr. of Sneads Ferry, N.C. Elaine loved and treasured her five grandbabies, Amber, Morgan, Tyler, Dylan and Isaac. They will miss their Mimmie greatly, and she will always be their angel. She will also be missed by uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and many, many friends.
Elaine’s family extends a special thank you to Jeremy Edens, R.W. Everette, Phylis Ramsey and Terry Wyckoff for being a special part of her life and helping in her time of need.
Cremation will take place and all services will be held in North Carolina at a later date.

Placido B. Peralta
Placido B. Peralta, age 85, a resident of Belen, and formerly of Magdalena, peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 18.
He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Grants for many years.
Placido was born to the late Vicente and Crucita Baca Peralta in 1926 in Santa Rita, (Riley) N.M. He worked in Grants, working many jobs and retiring from A-X Propane after several years of excellent service. Placido was also a rancher working for several ranches throughout the area.
He was preceded in death, one month and eight days, by his beloved wife, Deluvina; infant daughter, Audelia Peralta; and sister, Beneranda (Bennie) Uranga.
Placido is survived by his four children, Vincent and wife, Cathy Peralta, James (Ismael) and wife, Liz Peralta, Josie and husband, Juan Julian, and Martha and husband, Terry Rose; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four siblings, sister, Juanita Peralta, brothers, Salomon and wife, Velma Peralta and Ermiño Peralta and sister, Mary Driggers. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 23, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. A final visitation will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Magdalena at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 24, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Magdalena Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Randy and Jeff Peralta, Jason Julian, Jerrell Peralta, Jared Julian, Aaron Peralta and Vincent Rose.

Gordon Zimmerman passed peacefully in his home with his family at his bedside on Sunday, March 18.
He was born in Sabetha, Kan., and most recently resided in Belen.
In his last years, he was cared for by his devoted wife, stepdaughter and Pastor Alan Coleman; and in his last months by the loving team from Ambercare Hospice (Erica, Trevor, Richard, Rachel, and Megan) and by G. Anne Garcia.
He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Los Lunas.
Gordon and his wife enjoyed many years of working and living in various recreational vehicle parks around the country. He enjoyed growing flowers, telling stories and fishing.
In earlier years, he worked as a traveling salesman and manager in ladies’ ready-to-wear clothing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Orletha Zimmerman.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Betty; son, Jim Zimmerman; daughter, Cindy Martinez; stepson, Jack Bunds and wife, Marcy; stepdaughters, Debbie Bunds and Diana Muse and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Michael Martinez, Angel Gonzalez and husband, Alex, Gabby Martinez and husband, Paco Santoyo, and Chris Martinez; step-grandchildren, Monica Martin and husband, Dustin, Kyle Bunds and wife, Natalie, Jon Hill and Ty Muse; great-grandchildren, Alexia Barnhart, Ysabella Gonzalez, Marcos Martinez, Breanna and Victoria Santoyo, and
Jaydance Martinez; and step-great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Hallee and Luke Martin. He is also survived by his uncle, Gerald Vincent, and cousin, Ray Vincent.
A visitation will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 23, with a funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. Services will be followed by a reception.
The family request that memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church. Interment will be at a later date.
