Evelyn M. Arnold
Evelyn M. Arnold, age 75, passed away on Sunday, April 15.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 24, 1937, and has been a resident of Belen since 1972.
Since retiring from Walmart, she spent her time spinning yarn and knitting hats for newborn babies and socks for family, friends and anyone with cold feet. Evelyn was a founding member of the Fiber to Finish guild.
She loved all creatures, big and small, especially her cat, Raggs.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother. Evelyn is survived by her son, Kevin Elman and his wife, Sharon, of Greeley, Colo.; daughter, Barbara Abchal of Lincoln City, Ore., daughter, Diana Mercado of Blackshear, Ga.; sister, Barbara, of Toms River, N.J., and sister Mary of California.
A memorial service, led by Pastor Don DuBerry, to celebrate Evelyn’s life, will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, April 20, at the Belen Christian Church, 421 S. 11th St., followed by a luncheon to share memories and our love for her. Services are being handled by the Belen Christian Church.

Shirley A. Baca
Shirley A. Baca, age 52, a resident of Belen, passed away on Friday, April 13.
She was an employee and a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, where she was a catechism teacher.
She was active in her community as a Belen High School softball coach and a member of the cancer group in Belen.
Shirley was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader, served as a member of the Valencia County Sheriff’s Posse and a coordinator for the Valencia County Rodeo Queen competition.
She was preceded in death by her father, Simon Baca; brother, Simonsito Baca; grandparents, Luciano and Rosenda Baca; uncle, Pedro Baca; mother-in-law, Elena Baca; and grandmother, Noberta Torres.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Phillip Baca; mother, Bernardina Baca; two daughters, Catherine Baca and fiancé, Joseph Chavez, and Amanda Baca; three sisters, Dolores Baca, Mary Jean and husband, Russell Piersol, and Senovia and husband, Anthony Perez; and two brothers, Jacob Baca and Ricky and wife, LaRee Baca. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
All service were held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing and Rosary on Sunday, April 15, and a final visitation and Funeral Mass on Monday, April 16. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

This is in loving memory of Ruperto Garcia, who passed Friday April 13.
Born in Bosque, March 1,1936, Ruperto is the son of Ramon and Flora Garcia (deceased). He is survived by nine brothers and sisters: Edwina, Gillie, Antonio (deceased) and wife, Margarita, Priscilla, Jake, Pat and wife, Eldora, Corinna and husband, Larry, Kathy, Dolores (deceased), Gene and wife, Audrey, Cynthia and husband, Lester; and many nieces and nephews.
Samantha Moore, age 21, graduate of Belen High School, class of 2009, passed away Wednesday, April 11.
She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, where she was a choir member for the 10 a.m. Mass.
She played guitar, violin and piano, and was a member of the youth group, as well.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Brandi Moore in 2008.
Samantha is survived by her 18-month-old son, Aiden Jay Moore; brother, Gary Moore Jr.; biological parents, Gary Moore Sr. and Kathi Moore; and her grandparents and adoptive parents, Raymond and Refugia Moore.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 23, at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Mark Benjamin Rasmusson
Mark Benjamin Rasmusson, 56, passed away unexpectedly on April 11.
Mark was born April 14, 1955, in Sacramento, Calif., to Marlin Benjamin Rasmusson and Vera Verasoff.
Mark resided in Los Lunas, where he proudly held a position for Med Flight Air Ambulance as a transport pilot.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Kelli Jane Ness-Rasmusson; and two beautiful sons, Mark Jr. and Blair.
Mark was a loving husband and caring father whom we will all miss ever so dearly.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, at their residence in Los Lunas.
Richard Paul Sachs
Richard Paul Sachs, age 47, a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 13, surrounded by his family at home.
He was born in 1964 to the late Herman E. Sachs and his mother, Shirley Easterling Sachs, who survives him. He now rests with our Lord and Savior.
He was born and raised in Belen and attended St. Mary’s School, Belen Middle School and Belen High School. He loved the people of Belen and had many friends.
Richard especially enjoyed spending time with his two children, who were the apple of his eye, Herman and Raquel. They loved playing sports, games, fishing and bike riding. His most precious gift to them was showing them love above all else.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman; and brother, Michael. Richard is survived by his mother, Shirley; children, Herman and Raquel; siblings, Stephen, Anna Martinez, Sammy, Chris and wife, Teresa, Greg and wife, Cathy McCartney, Lisa Barela and husband, Martin, and David. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends, who loved him very much. He will be missed dearly.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday, April 19, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Eliseo R. Sisneros
Eliseo R. Sisneros, 86, formerly of Belen and currently of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday April 16.
He was a member of both Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and Saint Joseph’s on the Rio Grande.
Mr. Sisneros was a veteran, having served the duration of World War II in the U.S. Navy, and also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Morse Code Radio Club.
Mr. Sisneros was preceded in death by his son, Estevan Z. Sisneros. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Brigida Z. Sisneros; his eldest son, Eliseo Z. Sisneros Jr. and his wife, Helena, son, Dennis Z. Sisneros and his wife, Martha, son, Arthur M. Sisneros, son, Robert A. Sisneros and Rosemary Martinez; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Riverside Funeral Home Los Lunas Chapel at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday April 18, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A final viewing will begin at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, April 19, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the parish cemetery.

Felipe Storey, age 76, a resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, April 16.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard DD-762 USS Rowan from 1955 to 1958. Felipe was a carman for the Santa Fe Railroad with 40 years of outstanding service.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Storey; mother, Guadalupe Armijo; brother, David Storey; sister, Rita Zamora; and son, Kendrick Storey.
Felipe is survived by his daughters, Barbara Storey-Bustos and husband, Ted, Elizabeth Storey-Wright and husband, Larry, and Cynthia Storey-Carrasco and husband, Wilfred; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Dennis Storey and Roy Storey and wife, Sara; and sisters, Isabel Sanchez and Lupe Zamora. He was also survived by Ms. Desideria Vallez.
A visitation at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 19, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home Chapel. A final visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m., Friday, April 20, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will be held privately.
