Over the past several weeks, hundreds of high school seniors and University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus students received their diplomas at their respective commencement ceremonies.
What all these graduates have in common is that they have accomplished something that they can look back on with great pride and joy. They’ve spent countless hours studying for classes, hours writing papers, hours listening to lectures, and now four or so years later, they have something to show for it — an education.
While some graduates will go onto higher education, others will forge into the working world and others into the military. Whatever the future holds for these graduates, they will know that they can accomplish what they’ve set out to do.
And while their schooling is now over, their education never is. The commitment to education is a powerful thing. Education is a lifelong experience, something no one should ever try and avoid.
Some of our local students are bound for greatness. They will change the world and make it a better place for all of us.
Some will have 9-to-5 jobs, making the world go round; some will start a business, while others will struggle just to find a part-time job. Life if full of unknowns, but what is known is that with an education, anything is possible.
By bettering ourselves, we better the world. By being better and a more valuable contributor to society, we enhance society.
As our graduates leave for their new adventures in life, they should know that they are in control of their lives and their futures. The strengths from within is what got them through school and what will get them through the next chapters of their lives.
The hard work they’ve put in during school and the relationships they formed have helped shaped them into adults — people who are ready to face the challenges ahead.
We congratulate each and every graduate in Valencia County. Now it’s time to live the rest of your lives. Make it worthwhile.
