Manuel Chavez, age 76, a resident of Las Nutrias, passed away on Thursday, June 28. He was a member of San Isidro Mission in Las Nutrias. Manuel worked for the Santa Fe Hospital for 20 years. Then he went to work for Presbyterian Hospital as a medical tech until his retirement.
After that he resided in Las Nutrias, where he cared for his father and uncle until their deaths.
He loved caring for his animals. Manuel was very sociable and enjoyed going to dances, fiestas and had many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolina Griego; father, Ernesto Chavez; and sister, Sofia Chavez.
Manuel is survived by his two sisters, Tomasita Wakeen and husband, Joseph and Helen Chavez; two brothers, Ruben Chavez and wife, Angie and Delfino Chavez. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
All services will be held at San Isidro Mission in Las Nutrias beginning with a viewing at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
A final visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 2, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at San Isidro Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Kaseman Hospital Hospice Center, for their outstanding care, and friends and family for their support during this time.
