The Los Lunas Mail Center offers more than just stamps, it’s friendly, speedy and convenient, too.

“Customers love that we’re back open because we’re so convenient,” says Carlos Villarreal, one of the store’s owners, along with Jim and Dealva Cooper and Ashley Contreras.

The location is a one-stop shop for all your shipping, packaging and printing needs, including FedEx and UPS shipping and drop off and USPS, and DHL services. The Mail Center is the only place in the county offering DHL, an international shipping service.

Villarreal and Jim Cooper say their goals are to keep business local, not only to keep the revenue local, but also to save people from making long, costly and now, unnecessary trips to Albuquerque.

Keeping businesses in the community is important, say Villarreal and Copper, because it helps make the village grow, prosper and become a better place for everyone, as well as keeps people safe and close to home.

The store also offers discounts to military, police and firefighters, teachers and others to show their appreciation for some of the most important members of the community.

“We go out of our way for our costumes,” says Villarreal, who says that they find that their patrons often become more than customers, they become friends and neighbors.

Cooper and Villarreal say it’s not uncommon for them to drive a package themselves to Albuquerque or race to meet a mail truck or even an airplane if that’s what it takes to make sure their customers’ mail and packages get out on time.

Villarreal says when people bring packages or letters in, he takes them seriously because he can tell how important they are to the people sending them off.

“You can tell how sentimental it is,” he says.

The Main Center employees also make sure that there are no extra charges for individuals sending care packages to individuals in the military, as another way they say they are striving to support one another.

The owners say all their hard work pays off sometimes, too, when they receive thank you gifts from their customers in the form of cookies and cupcakes.

Some of the other services the Mail Center provides are shredding, faxing, copies, private mailboxes, business cards and poster printing.

Another important member of the team that you’ll be glad to meet is Kiwi, Villarreal’s black, miniature poodle and the shop mascot. Villarreal claims Kiwi is a sure cure for anyone that might be having a bad day.

He says having little Kiwi around helps lift people’s spirits, especially spirits that are stressed from running around doing errands.

The Mail Center is also located at 1400 Main Street in Suit C, close to Interstate 25.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturdays.
