Miles R. Michael Sr.
Miles R. Michael Sr., age 89, a resident of Belen, passed away on Wednesday, July 18.
He was a member of the Evening Optimist Club of Belen, Black Officers Association of New Mexico and American Legion.
Miles was a baseball player in the Men’s Negro League, served in the Army during WWII, and retired from the city of New York Housing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Michael; sons, Miles R. Michael Jr. and Gregory Michael; and brothers, Ivan and Rex Michael.
Miles is survived by his son, Schuyler Michael; brother, Earl Michael; sister-in-law, Frances Bonnemere; daughter-in-law, Barbara Michael; granddaughters, Kim Chamberlayne, Veji Aytes, Monique Penick and husband, Jerome, and Laura Michael; grandson, Devin Michael; and great-grandchildren, Taysia Aytes, Gregory Commack Jr. and Daniel Chamberlayne. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Belen Missionary Baptist Church at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 25.
A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place at later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Richard Allen Piro
Richard Allen Piro, 44, who was a resident of El Cerro until his marriage and then resided with his wife and son in Albuquerque, died on Thursday, July 19.
Richard was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Meliton and Tomasita Aragon and Eliseo and Maria Piro; uncles, Robert Aragon, Tony Piro and Faustino Piro; aunts, Stella Piro and Juana Balidoy
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lulu; son, Richard Aaron; parents, Louisa and Cristo Piro; brothers, Michael and Michelle Piro, Jason and Michelle Piro; sister, Lisa Piro and Douglas Burson; special aunt, Lugie Eylicio; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services, including a Rosary and Funeral Mass, were held at Immaculate Conception Church in Tomé on Tuesday, July 24. Interment followed the Tomé Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Alderete, Ramon Eylicio, Edwin Eylicio, Antonio Aragon III, Tyrone Woods and Michael Buckner. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Piro, Jason Piro, Antonio Aragon II, Henry Cardiel and Cheyenne Buckner.

Terry Tafoya, age 27, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, July 19.
She was pursuing her dream of a nursing degree and recently joined Presbyterian Hospital with hopes for the future.
Her light will not be forgotten by those who loved her best and she will be greatly missed by all.
Terry is survived by her mother, Cathy Tafoya and husband, Victor Madrid, of Albuquerque; father, Serjio Tafoya, of Belen; brother, Michael Tafoya, of Albuquerque; sister, Melissa Tafoya and husband, Sebastian Neri; and niece, Alexis Mirabel, of Beaumont, Calif.
A viewing and Rosary were held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 23; and a final visitation and Funeral Mass were held at San Clemente Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 24.
Interment followed at Los Lentes Catholic Cemetery.

Edith Woznick, age 81, a resident of Belen, passed away Tuesday, July 24.
