Three suspects who were arrested in connection with last month’s Water King burglary in Belen were indicted by a Valencia County grand jury.

The suspects were arrested after police said they took $2,000 and a company credit card from the Water King on Main Street on July 21.

One of the men, Jonathan Garcia, 19, of Belen, was an employee who used his store-issued key to enter the business with another individual to open the safe with a combination, according to police.

Garcia and another man took a combination of money, checks and rolled coins from a security safe in the store. The officer said the man used the combination to open the safe and later disposed of the top portion of the safe.

The other two suspects who were arrested were Joey Ortega, 18, of Belen, and Randy Romero, 38, of Albuquerque.

Ortega and Garcia were indicted on charges that include theft of a credit card, conspiracy to commit theft of a credit card, non-residential burglary, larceny over $500 and tampering with evidence ― a fourth-degree felony.

Romero was indicted on one count of larceny, one count of theft of a credit card, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of larceny.

Police said Romero took the credit card belonging to the business and said he was going “to get rid” of the card.

Instead, Romero’s girlfriend told police he took the card and used it to buy gas.
