Nominate a worthy volunteer
For nearly two decades, since 1995, the News-Bulletin has been choosing a Citizen of the Year and honoring Unsung Heroes.
They’re all people who do things out of the goodness of their hearts — folks who are volunteers and are not paid for their activism.
We are once again asking for nominations from the public for people who do what they do for the betterment of their community, of their neighbors and of the county. The News-Bulletin is committed to sharing their stories, their goals and why they volunteer to make the world a better place.
Valencia County is a great place to live. It’s a place where people are always helping one another, trying to make a difference. In a time when things are tough, people stand up to volunteer without hesitation.
In the past, we have honored both young and old alike. It doesn’t matter where they live in Valencia County, who they’re related to or the amount of money they’ve given — they’re chosen simply because they give of themselves, without asking anything in return.
We’ve honored farmers, historians, coaches, veterans and educators. In the past, we have chosen those who have made a difference in the lives of our youth and elders, in non-profit roles and who have volunteered to give animals the best care possible, just to name a few.
It’s been our mission in our annual Local’s edition, which this year will be published every Saturday during the month of October, culminating with our Citizen of the Year and Unsung Heroes section on Oct. 27, to showcase Valencia County at its best.
So if you know of someone who is worthy of being honored as an unsung hero, contact us and let us know who they are and why, you believe, they deserve to be recognized.
The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, Sept. 28. Call Clara Garcia at 864-4472, or email email@example.com. You can also send your nominations to the News-Bulletin, P.O. Box 25, Belen, N.M., 87002.
