Football results from Sept. 14
One of the Valencia County high school football teams playing at home won easily Friday, while the other lost.
The third team got a huge confidence-boosting road win.
Los Lunas beat Del Norte by mercy rule, 51-3, in its Homecoming game. Valencia suffered a 49-16 home loss to Artesia.
Belen won in overtime, 34-33, at Moriarty.
Los Lunas scored 37 points in the second quarter of its blowout win, which made the Tigers 3-0 on the season. Jalen Chavez’s 78-yard touchdown run was part of his 145 yards on the ground.
Chris Wisneski was 6-for-10 passing for 106 yards and ran for two scores. Sasha Gallegos and Darron Gallegos also scored rushing touchdowns.
Los Lunas is at home again next Friday, Sept. 14, when it hosts Sandia. The Matadors beat Volcano Vista on Friday, 31-14.
At Valencia, Artesia quarterback Drew Houghtaling completed 25-of-33 passes for 343
yards with no interceptions and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs build a 28-9 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs might have put up more points, were it not for 86 yards in penalties. Each team lost three fumbles in the contest.
Josh Burbank scored on a 63-yard run, Caleb Crum kicked a 20-yard field goal and Trase Peperas scored from one yard out to account for Valencia’s scoring. Burbank had 88 rushing yards for Valencia, which faces Atrisco Heritage at Milne Stadium on Thursday.
Details from the Belen win will be added to this story when available. The Eagles are set to play next Friday at Goddard, which won 21-17 at Rio Rancho High on Sept. 14.
