Lady Eagles get district win over Bengals

Following an emotional overtime win at rival Los Lunas last weekend, Belen continued to win in District 6-4A with an 8-2 trouncing of Gallup on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles (5-6) are 2-0 in District 6-4A with a visit to Miyamura (6-6), also 2-0 in district, set for Saturday. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Kaitlyn D’Arcangeli scored four goals in the win over the visiting Bengals. The Eagle senior got into the scoring column in the 15th minute to give Belen a 1-0 edge.

Alexis Begay scored at the 21:44 mark to increase the lead, and Belen took a 3-0 lead into halftime on Alisha Silva’s score within the last two minutes of the half.

Gallup responded quickly after the half, scoring in the 47th minute to narrow the lead to 3-1.

But D’Arcangeli notched a goal just 20 seconds later and Ari Valdez followed two minutes later to extend the Eagle lead to 5-1. D’Arcangeli added another score in the 54th minute to lead by five goals.

Gallup was able to score at 56:39 on a goal by Tara Soland to close the gap to 6-2.

It was time for D’Arcangeli to get into the scoring column again. The senior scored at 61:21 to stretch the margin to 7-2.

Begay got the final gaol in the 77th minute.

The win sets up this weekend’s match between the only two undefeated teams in the district. Miyamura beat Valencia 1-0 in VHS’ Tuesday visit to Gallup.
