Hollis Edwin Lawson
1938-2012
Hollis E. Lawson, of Belen, passed away at the age of 74 on Friday, Sept. 28.
Hollis lived in Jal, N.M., for 46 years prior to moving to Belen with his family in 2004. He was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Caradan, Texas, to Covie Franklin and Etta Mae (Koen) Lawson.
Hollis married Loretta Durene Guilliams on Sept. 4, 1959, in Jal. Hollis was a Baptist, a member of the Eunice Masonic Lodge and Jal Eastern Star. He was a retired pipeline construction superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Durene Lawson; two daughters, Wynona Redman and D’Nene Luera; and son-in-law Charles Luera, all of Belen; four grandchildren, Shaeley Redman of Littleton, Colo., Alyssa Redman of Las Cruces, and Drew and Daryn Luera of Belen.
A public viewing and funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 1, at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel with graveside services following at the Terrace Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bernalillo County Fire Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Shaeley, Alyssa, Drew and Daryn.

Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Ledesma
1954-2012
Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Ledesma, age 58, passed away on Friday, Sept. 28, at her home in Los Lunas surrounded by her loving family that she adored.
Lupe will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, nana and aunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Flora Aragon Rael; and two brothers, Luis Rael and Jose Rael. Lupe is survived by her loving husband that took good care of her for 38 years, Anthony Ledesma; her only loving daughter, Rebecca Tapia; special grandchildren, Justin, Elizabeth, Cody and Shyanne Farina; two brothers, Ismael Rael and wife, Lydia, and Francisco Rael and wife, Mary Jane; two sisters, Beatrice Candeleria and husband, Rafael, and Margaret Garcia; goddaughters, Tanya Lovato and Evangeline Gomez; godson and grandchild, Justin Farina Jr. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, with a vigil service to be held at 6 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.

Thomas Leyba
1925-2012
Thomas Leyba, age 87, a resident of Belen passed away on Monday, Oct. 1.
He was raised in Clayton, N.M., then moved to California after serving in the Navy where he met the love of his life. He retired from Martin Meritta Corporation and moved back to New Mexico in 1986 to be closer to his family.
He joins in death his wife, Lugarda; his parents, Sarah and Gregorio Leyba; his siblings, Esther Svalina, Vivian Leyba, Susan Martinez, Leonard Leyba, Adel Tupper and Selma Harris.
Thomas leaves behind his children, Freddie Martinez and wife, Theresa, and Hilda Hidalgo and husband, Joe; siblings, Samuel Leyba, David Leyba, Irene Shirley and Ernestine Stauffer; seven grandchildren, Roberta Valencia, JoAnna Gonzales, Jerald Hidalgo, Charlene Trujillo, Kenny Martinez, Tommy Martinez and Jessica Chavez; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 6, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Martinez, Jerald Hidalgo, Tommy Martinez and Robert Valencia.

Miguel “Daniel” Mendoza
1932-2012
Miguel “Daniel” Mendoza, age 80, a former resident of Belen, peacefully passed away on Sept. 29 surrounded by his loving family at Presbyterian Anna Kaseman Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Mendoza was born on July 5, 1932, in McNarry, Ariz., to Ignacio and Maria Ponce Mendoza. Daniel was a determined person that once he set his mind to do something, he was sure to accomplish anything.
At the age of 16, he started working for the railroad and decided to make it a career and worked for the AT&SF Railroad until he retired at the age of 62. Daniel lived in Belen most of his life.
In 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Magdalena Torres. They have lived a blessed life all these years raising their children, Jose and Vicky. Daniel enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, wrestling, especially WWE, and he loved his tools and shopping at Sears.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Magdalena; daughter, Vicky Cox and husband, Brian; son, Jose Mendoza and wife, Gaylean; grandchildren, Lawrence Chavez and wife, Cristalle, Beverly Armour and husband, Daniel, Michael, Gabrielle and Jaclynn Mendoza, Anthony and Joseph Jaramillo; five great-grandchildren, Shane, Bianca, Dominic, Dane and Brock Chavez; sister, Lydia Romero; and brother, Adolfo Mendoza.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Wednesday, Oct. 3, beginning with a viewing at 11 a.m., a rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
