Lady Eagles fall on road to Miyamura

Belen High’s girls soccer team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in District 6-4A girls soccer this weekend, falling to host Miyamura 5-2 on Saturday.

Belen (5-7, 2-1 in 6-4A after Saturday) saw a close contest blown open in the second half by Miyamura (7-6, 3-0). The Patriots only led 1-0 at the half.

Belen began a three-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting county rival Valencia in a game that was scheduled for after News-Bulletin press time.

The Eagles will host Grants on Saturday in a game set for an 11 a.m. kickoff. They host Los Lunas on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in a match set for a 4 p.m. start.

Miyamura got two goals each from Baylee Schmaltz and Hannah Etcitty. Ariana Aretino added a Patriot goal.

Belen coach Wilfred Carrasco could not be reached for comment regarding the loss.
