Jason Baca has resigned his positions as both vice principal and athletic coordinator at Los Lunas High, according to LLHS Principal Dan Padilla.

Baca, who was the coordinator and a vice principal at Valencia High in 2011-12, moved to LLHS late last spring. Padilla said Baca is "making a career change."

Padilla said Baca's resignation is effective Oct. 28. When reached for comment, Baca refused to answer any questions.

Padilla said he and Vice Principal Kevin Benavidez, who both have a background in athletics, will handle duties until a replacement is found for Baca. A search is under way.

"With the progress and the success so many of our programs are making, we really want to get the right person in there," said Padilla. "We're going to take our time in finding a replacement."

Padilla praised the work of Susan Griego, the athletic secretary whose next boss will be the fifth LLHS coordinator since the start of the 2010-11 school year.

The principal said no interviews or dates have been set up yet. An assistant principal opening has been posted on the Los Lunas Schools website, www.llschool.net.

The only varsity coach openings in the county are the Valencia High girls and boys track positions. No applicant or interview information has been released for those spots.
