Football results from Friday, Oct. 12
In one of Friday’s football games, there was very little offense. In the other, there was plenty of offense, but it was all from one team.
In Belen, the Los Lunas Tigers easily won the 60th Valencia Bowl game, beating the Eagles on their home field, 40-0.
At Valencia High, the host Jaguars earned their first victory of 2012, beating Gallup, 30-15.
Los Lunas improved to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in District 6-4A.
The Tigers’ defense smothered Belen, limiting the Eagles (4-2, 0-1) to 39 total yards in game, including minus-3 yards passing.
Belen fumbled six times, losing three, and the Tigers used their excellent field position to stake a 26-0 halftime lead.
Isaac Parra scored on a 2-yard plunge in the first quarter. In the second period, the Tigers scored on a touchdown passes from Wisneski to Jalen Chavez (27 yards) and Jacob Holland (6 yards) and a 2-yard dive by Darron Gallegos.
Wisneski threw to Preston Schollander and Chavez ran it in from 42 yards out for the Tigers’ second-half scoring. The final score led to a running clock, per the mercy rule.
Neither team scored in the first half of the Gallup-Valencia game. Chris Brandt return a fumble 41 yards for a third-quarter score. A 36-yard Caleb Crum 36 field goal and touchdown runs by Trase Peperas and Josh Burbank, along with a fumble return by Santiago Ibuado.
Taylor Ramirez threw two second-half TD passes for Gallup, which had 193 passing yards. The Jags (1-5 oveall, 1-0 in 6-4A) had zero passing yards, but had 370 yards on the ground, and the VHS defense held the Bengals (2-4) to 32 yards rushing.
