Montoya to fight on Oct. 27
After recently announcing she had a contract and no opponent, Brandi Montoya now has an opponent. And a new fight date.
After having previously announced an October fight date in Las Vegas, N.M., it turns out Montoya will be fighting much closer to home. The Los Lunas boxer is set to fight Christina Fuentes of Laredo, Texas on an upcoming card at Albuquerque’s Kiva Auditorium.
The six-round WIBA Youth super flyweight title bout will be on the same card as Victoria Cisneros’ fight on Saturday, Oct. 27. The first bell is at 7 p.m.
Montoya, 4-2, last fought on Sept. 1 in Pueblo, Colo., when she took a unanimous decision from Chantel Cordova for her fourth consecutive win.
Fuentes is 1-1-3 and hasn’t fought since Dec. 16, 2011. Montoya’s camp is not too familiar with the southern Texas boxer, as the two have no common opponents. Fuentes fought Maria Ruiz of Laredo to a draw twice before finally earning a victory.
Montoya has boxed 30 total rounds in her six pro fights, while Fuentes has gone 22.
Cisneros, who has lost two decisions to Holly Holm, is probably the best-known female boxer slated for the card at the Kiva.
On a poster for the Oct. 27 event, the headlining bout is a men’s matchup involving Albuquerque’s Fidel “Atrisco Kid” Maldonado Jr. Montoya’s and Cinsneros’s fights are among six other matchups listed.
Tickets for the show are available through Ticketmaster or by calling Chavez Promotions at 261-1502 or Mike Montoya at 610-3691.
