Los Lunas girls shut out by Lady Patriots, 5-0; season likely over
The Los Lunas High girls soccer team dropped a District 6-4A match to Miyamura, 5-0, on Saturday in Gallup.
The loss dropped the Lady Tigers' record to 7-10 overall, along with 3-6 and fourth place in 6-4A. The Tigers were set to conclude the district part of their season with a home game against their local rivals, the Valencia Lady Jaguars.
The Tigers wrap the regular season by hosting Santa Fe High for a 4 p.m. match on Thursday. The Class 4A state playoff meeting is set for Sunday, but it seems unlikely the Tigers will receive one of the at-large berths.
The Tigers fell behind in the first half, and trailed 2-0 at halftime Saturday.
Host Miyamura clinched its third consecutive District 6-4A championship with the win. The Lady Patriots (12-6, 8-1) were coming off a humbling 3-1 defeat at Belen last Tuesday.
Miyamura has beaten the Tigers in five consecutive meetings. Saturday's loss was the Tigers' third shutout loss in the last four matches.
LLHS sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Savedra made eight saves in Saturday's match.
