Lady Tigers get two wins; forfeit means they place first in district
Two more lopsided wins this week, along with a forfeit by Valencia, gave the Los Lunas High volleyball team its third consecutive District 6-4A regular-season title.
The Lady Tigers swept matches at Grants on Tuesday and at home against Gallup on Thursday, pushing their record to 17-1 overall and 8-0 in 6-4A.
Valencia High now has two district losses. The Lady Jaguars will forfeit next Thursday's scheduled regular-season finale for scheduling too many matches. The Valencia match will not be played; see the separate story in this issue.
Los Lunas is set to play a road match Tuesday against Miyamura in Gallup, set for 6:30 p.m. Then, on Thursday, the Tiger C-team will play its usual 4 p.m. match at Valencia on Thursday, with the junior varsity to follow, but the varsity match will be skipped.
The district tournament is set for the week of Nov. 5-10.
Tuesday's win over the Lady Pirates (now 8-9, 3-5) came by 25-19, 25-13 and 25-17 scores. Katie Inman had 12 kills in the match, while Mykayla Moody added seven.
Sydney Garcia had 12 kills for Grants.
Thursday, the Tigers rolled to a 25-8, 25-18, 25-20 win over the Gallup Lady Bengals (4-13, 2-6). The win on LLHS senior night was the Tigers' 29th consecutive regular-season district win, with their last loss of that type being a 3-1 defeat at Eldorado on Oct. 22, 2009.
