The Belen High football team was an underdog in Friday’s Class 4A semifinal game.

Though the Eagles battled hard, they came up short in a season-ending 35-7 loss to Goddard in Roswell.

The No. 4-seeded Eagles played without sophomore starting quarterback Chris Peralta. He missed the game with concussion symptoms.

Eliseo Aguirre took over for Belen. Goddard held Belen to just 89 yards of total offense.

The Belen defense played well at times, and the Eagles trailed 14-0 at the half.

Anthony Ornelas broke the game open by returning the second-half kickoff 88 yards to put the No. 1 seed Rockets up 21-0.
Cody French had touchdown runs of 15 ,15 and 18 yards in the game and finished with 155 yards rushing on 17 carries.
The No. 2-seeded Los Lunas Tigers are set to travel to No. 6 Aztec for Saturday’s other 4A semifinal, which is set for 1 p.m. Look for a separate story on this site later this weekend.
