Baca given Dental Hygienist of Excellence Award
Ermelinda Baca, a dental hygienist at Dr. Linda Dixon’s Belen practice, was all smiles when she found out she received the Dental Hygienist of Excellence Award from the New Mexico Hygienist Association last month.
A Rio Communities resident, Baca was nominated by a fellow hygienist.
The nomination essay praised Baca for her adherence to ethics and high standards, the time commitment she gives to the profession outside of the office and her visionary view of the future of dental hygiene.
Baca is a member of the High Desert Dental Hygienists’ Society, has served as a member of the Adelino Head Start Advisory Committee for 15 years.
She has served in a governor-appointed position on the Dental Hygienists Committee of the Board of Dental Healthcare from 1988 to 2001, which included several terms as the hygienist representative to the Board of Dental Healthcare.
As a member of the board and committee, Baca was afforded the opportunity to serve on the Western Regional Examining Board. She has served as a dental hygiene and local anesthesia examiner since 1988.
Most recently, Baca has represented the association on a rules sub-committee to the Board of Dental Healthcare.
The proposed rules, which support the recent amendments to the Dental Healthcare Act, were presented at several public hearings before being finalized.
She is also a principal presenter at several continuing education courses on implementing non-surgical periodontal therapy in Farmington, Las Cruces and Albuquerque.
