Robbery suspect arrested
An 18-year-old Los Lunas man is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and armed robbery following a Dec. 14 incident where police said he shot at two other men on Curfman Road.
According to a police report, David Denton began shooting at two men with an assault rifle on a nearby ditchbank about 12:45 p.m.
The report said one of the men, who was not identified, suffered minor cuts to his right eye, upper thigh and lower back from flying debris from shots fired at the ground.
The men were on their way to meet another man at the location to buy back an iPod.
At some point, the victim said he claimed Denton forced him to give him about $28 in cash. The other man, who was not injured, told deputies he feared for his life and believed that Denton was going to kill him, the report said.
Immediately after the incident, the two men ran to a residence on the 4000 block of Zuni Trail and called police.
Denton turned himself into deputies about 10 p.m. that night.
He was released from the Valencia County Detention Center after he posted a $5,000 cash or surety bond on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
