VALENCIA COUNTY LITERACY Council is offering two-day free tutor training courses in both basic literacy and English as a second language at the Belen Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 2, with an orientation prior to the training at UNM-VC. LOS LUNAS FAMILY SCHOOL is currently accepting students for the 2012-13 school year. Los Lunas Middle School is home to seventh- and eighth-grade students and Katherine Gallegos Elementary is home to first- sixth-grade students. Students participate for 2 1/2 days in public school instruction in language arts and math while the other  2 1/2 days students are home schooled in science and social studies. WALKING FOR PLEASURE and Fitness, a part of the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area Speaker Series, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Dubra Karnes-Padilla, a certified personal trainer and educator, will teach participants about how learning to walk with poles and using a pedometer can train your cardiovascular and respiratory system and engage the muscles in your core, upper and lower body.
