Girl claims abuse; no Facebook and phone

The temporary ban from a social networking site led a girl to call police and claim she was being abused for having certain privileges taken away, according to Bosque Farms Police Lt. David Gallegos.

Gallegos said the 15-year-old girl called 911 on Jan. 11 and claimed her parents were abusing her because they took away her phone and Facebook privileges at a residence on the 300 block of Ranchitos Road in Bosque Farms.

The girl, who was not charged, was advised charges could be filed if she improperly used the 911 service. Police told the girl about what true child abuse entailed. Residents are only permitted to call 911 in the event of an emergency.

Gallegos said it's important for residents to realize that unnecessary calls could tie up lines for another emergency coming through the dispatch center.

He said similar incidents happen more often than police would like.

"The girl thought it was an emergency in her eyes," Gallegos said.
