A 32-year-old Belen man was charged with impersonating a police officer this week after officers said he tried to deceive a woman to give him money at a Wells Fargo ATM.

According to a police report, the man, Cornelian Allen, was charged with impersonating an officer Jan. 21 after he told a woman "that he was the police."

According to the report, Allen approached the woman and asked for money. Police said Allen walked up to the woman who was using the bank's ATM.

The report said the woman called police after Allen refused to listen to the woman's request to leave her alone.

At some point, the man reportedly went up to the ATM and pushed buttons in an attempt to retrieve money from the woman's transaction.
