Lady Tigers demolish Roswell, take state championship

In one of the most impressive defensive performances in this year’s Class 4A girls basketball tournament, Los Lunas shut down the Roswell offense in the second half to win the 2013 state title Friday night.

The Tigers only allowed 11 second half points to win easily, 51-27. Tinaya Murphy hit three 3-pointers to lead the scoring with 18 points. Teige Zeller added in 11.

But it was close at the half, with Roswell closing a 15-point early lead down to 20-16 at the break.

Los Lunas responded with a shut down defense that held the Coyotes scoreless in the third quarter. The 18-0 run made it 38-16 going into the final period.

No Roswell player scored in double figures.

Los Lunas finished with a 28-4 record, while Roswell dropped to 23-8.
