The Valencia County fire chief was late to Wednesday’s commission meeting, but he came bearing good news.
After spending all day in Santa Fe and testifying in front of the Public Regulations Commission, Chief Stephen Gonzales announced that there’s a new ambulance service operating in the county temporarily.
The PRC granted a temporary operating authority to American Medical Response, a nation-wide medical transport company, to operate in Valencia County for the next 90 days in the county.
“AMR was granted 90 day authority, which means in that 90 days, the PRC will grant them an official hearing to look at the possibility of granting them permanent authority in Valencia County,” Gonzales said.
The company began operating units in the county on Wednesday night, he said.
