Belen Public Library rolls out carpet for ‘Flying Squirrels’
The red carpet was rolled out and the cast dressed in their best duds Saturday evening at the Belen premiere of “House of Flying Squirrels.”
Twenty human players and two squirrels — hand puppets by the names of Squirrel Connery and Dame Squirrelly Dench — joined their director and martial arts teacher, Kayne Sirocco LaTrans, for the red-carpet premiere of the full-length movie at the Belen Public Library.
They are students of her Chinese martial arts school, Martial Artistry, in Albuquerque.
The movie came to the attention of Belen Library Director Deborah Graham when volunteer Elaine Compton apologized for not working one month.
“I can’t be at the library because I’m shooting a movie,” Compton said.
To which the ever-exuberant Graham said, “We must have a showing in Belen.”
And so it came to pass, but technical difficulties prevented the complete showing. The movie will be shown later at one of the free Thursday night movies.
