Alex Baca, 70, a resident of Peralta, passed away on April 23.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Baca; son, Richard Alex Baca; grandson, Richard Alex Baca; granddaughter, Andrea Raquel Baca; brothers, Benny and his wife, Fabyola, Leroy and his wife, Marianne, and Rosendo and his wife, Janet; sisters Isabel, Relly and her husband, Orlando, Loretta, and many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Amy Baca
1940-2013

Amy Baca, age 72, a resident Belen, passed away on Sunday, April 21.
She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Amy worked for Belen Consolidated Schools with the Special Education Program.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gillie and Emma Castillo Sanchez; brother, Wilfred Sanchez; and in-laws, Antonio and Maria Elicia Baca.
Amy is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Antonio Jose Baca; her three grown children, Cindy Carabajal and husband, Floyd, son, Anthony Baca and wife, Carmen, and son, Jim Baca and wife, Annabelle; seven grandchildren, three-great-grandchildren; sister, Dinah Baca; and two brothers, Milton and Albert Sanchez. She is also survived by many relatives and friends.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Friday, April 26, beginning with a viewing at 8:30 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Scott McKee presiding. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Anthony, Antonio, Jim and Noah Baca and Floyd and Jonathan Carabajal.

Michael Williams Botts
1948-2013

Michael Williams Botts, age 65, a resident of Belen, started his journey home on Sunday, April 21.
Michael served his country as a decorated Navy Seal for eight years during the most difficult time in the Vietnam War.
“Michael, you will be deeply missed for your kindness, thoughtfulness and good natured ways. You had a heart of gold. May your faith guide you on your journey and may you know how much you will be missed but remembered in our hearts.”
Michael is survived by his loving soulmate wife, Sabrina “Brina,” who has been by his side as his wife, business partner and best friend for 33 years. He is also survived by his talented son, Michael Jr. and Christopher; his loving sisters, Susie and husband, Robert, Devora, and Linda and husband, Gary; brother, Jerry; his wondrous mother-in-law, Perry Chavez, and his many beloved relatives and friends.
All services will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 27, beginning with a visitation at 10:30 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

Connie R. Capps
1952-2013

Connie R. Capps, age 60, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away Monday, April 22.
She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and a very loyal friend, the best friend Maryanne ever had. She had a heart of gold, helped anyone who needed it, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
She ran a successful  business, was an accomplished artist and persevered through every obstacle that life threw her way. She made lemonade from lemons.
Connie touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Bodie says, “She was bad-to-the-bone.”
Connie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joe and Caroline Benefield; grandmothers, Constance Keith and Margie Joy; and brother, Jimmy Marion Benefield.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Capps; children, Timothy Paul Capps, Deborah Williams, Dolly Jo Cook, Ronald Lee Capps Jr., and Michael Capps; five grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews, and siblings, Margie Lewis, Carolyn Binkley, Glen Benefield, Joe A. Benefield, Bob Benefield and Pamela Marino.
A graveside service will be held at Terrace Grove Cemetery at 11 a.m., Friday, April 26.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Mirabal, Jerrod Mirabal, Ryan Benefield, Kelly Mongiello, Leslie Benefield and Jamie Benefield.  Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Paul Capps and Michael J. Capps.

Jose E. Garcia (Ellerd)
Died 2013

Jose E. Garcia (Ellerd), 74, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 22.
Jose is survived by his wife, Josephine Garcia; and his five children, Tom, Ron, Ed, Eric and Stephanie; and their spouses, Laurence, Marie, Frances, Renessa and Jonathan. He is also survived by his sister, Ida Carabajal and his brother, Cele Garcia.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Josefa Abeyta; and father, Filiberto Garcia; and brothers, Ramon and Albert Garcia.

Chester William Hale
1954-2013

Chester (Bill) Hale, 79, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 21, at his home in Peralta.
He was born in Dearborn, Mich., on Jan. 25 1954.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Letha (Ree) Hale.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Arp; his son, Scott and his wife, Cathy Ingram; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was an amazing husband, father and grandpa. He filled his family with love and memories that will never be forgotten.
Bill loved to hunt and fish and he passed on his love for the outdoors to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

CB Lawson
1924-2013

CB Lawson, age 88, a resident of Belen, was born on Dec. 18, 1924, in Coleman, Texas, to Claude Lawson and Mattie Fry Lawson.
CB loved hunting, fishing, gambling and being with his family. He was a member of the Belen Model Railroad Club. CB proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He worked as a pipefitter.
CB was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Claudine; and younger brother, Dale.
CB is survived by his lovely wife of 64 years, Beatrice Howard Lawson; five children, daughter, Sharon Burton and husband, Ronald of Portland, Ore., daughter, Jane Magazu and husband, Pete of Fernley, Nev., son, Randall Lawson and wife, Susan, of Belen, daughter, Debbie Garcia and husband, Doug, of Jarales, and daughter, Donna Schorr and husband, Bill, of Jarales; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; and brother, Jim Lawson. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Terrace Grove Cemetery on Wednesday, April 24.

Bernadina M. Otero
Died 2013

Bernadina M. Otero, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, beba, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 18, at the age of 67.
A member of the Isleta Pueblo, Bernadina retired in 2011 after 30 years as an assembler for BF Goodrich Aerospace (formerly Gulton Industries).
She loved spending time with her family, playing bingo or cards with them, traveling and caring for her grandchildren. When she wasn’t with her family and friends, she was talking to them on the phone for hours.
She enjoyed going to the casino, to concerts, reading the newspaper while listening to country or New Mexico music and making the best green chile around. She was a very special person who left many memories for her family to cherish.
Bernadina is survived by her sons, Vincent Otero and wife, Katie, Jeffrey Otero and partner, Lapin Padilla; grandchildren, Dominic, Jordan, Cheyenne, Jeffrey, Vincent and Tyler Otero; great-grandson, Joshua Ortega; sisters, Dolores Lente, Vangie Jojola and husband, Lorenzo; special nieces, Martha Jiron and husband, Eugene, Aggie Jiron and husband, Mike; special nephew, John Jiron; and many other nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her.
Bernadina was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Delilah Otero; sister, Lena Jiron; brother-in-law, Bartolo Jiron; nephew, Timothy Montoya; and brother-in-law, Jose Alcario Lente.
Bernadina was laid to rest in the Pueblo of Isleta’s cemetery on Friday, April 19.

Manuel J. Serna Jr.
1949-2013

Manuel J. Serna Jr., age 63, a resident of Belen, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 22.
He was born on April 29, 1949, in Albuquerque, where he was also raised. Manuel retired from the Belen Schools after many years of service. He was a hard-working man who loved to joke and had a great sense of humor.
Most of all, Manuel was a generous man with a big heart who never once hesitated to help someone else in need. No matter what was put in his path, he always put others needs before his own. He took pride in everything that he did, had a passion for life and was thankful for every day.
He leaves behind an emptiness that can never be filled.  He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Serna Sr. and Mary Serna; and his siblings, Richard Serna, Mary Ann Perez and Jenny Martinez.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Eva Serna; his daughters, Gina Serna and Roy Valenzuela, and Barbara Rierson and her husband, Bob. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tony Padilla Jr., Roy Padilla, Leandra Trujillo, Aerial Valenzuela, Miranda Sinclair and Braedyn Rierson; his godchildren, Evelyn Marquez, Frank Baca and Jenica Moya; siblings Mateo Mora and his wife, Geri, Priscilla Ramirez, and Cipri Chavez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
All services will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday, April 26, beginning with a viewing at noon. A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m., with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1 p.m. Cremation will take place, and a private burial will be held at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Felix Baca, John Rierson, Bob Rierson, Julian Ramirez Jr., JuanTomas Ramirez and Jessica Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Leandra Trujillo, Miranda Sinclair, Aerial Valenzuela, Braedyn Rierson and David Martinez.

Ed Tays
1934-2013

Ed was born in Roswell on May 15, 1934, where he grew up and went to school. He passed away on April 18.
He served in the U.S. Navy from May of 1953 until June of 1956, when he was released to inactive duty until June of 1960, when he was honorably discharged. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal, while he served in the Navy.
Ed worked at Glover Packing Co. upon his return from service; he then worked for the USDA as a meat compliance officer until his retirement.
The family moved around the country for his job with the USDA until finally settling in Bosque Farms. After moving to Bosque Farms, Ed became a member of the Bosque Farms Citizens Patrol, Roadrunner Riding Club and the Bosque Farms Rodeo Association.
Ed married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Dyson) Tays on Aug. 22, 1956, and from this union three children were born, Lori Ann (John) Bell, Krista Kay Tays and Stanley Edward (Julie) Tays. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Amanda Kaye (Joe) Norine, Philip Edward (Brandy) Durbin, Alyssia Marie Tays, Stanley Patrick Tays and Hunter Edward Tays; great-grandchildren, Garret Michael Norine, Wyatt Raymond Norine. Cheyann Marie Durbin, Trinity Leeann Durbin, Colton Philip Durbin and Gaige Brennan Tays and Connor Patrick Tays. Ed is survived by sisters, Juanita Garrett and Norman Evans; brother, Tommy Dean Tays and sister-in-law Shirley Tays.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Maude Tays Ross; father, Moma Duke Tays; stepfather, Bud Ross; brothers, Stanley Tays and James Duke Tays; and sister, Dorothy Stoff.
Ed’s greatest joys in life were his family, hunting, fishing, working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was adored by numerous friends and acquaintances who had the privilege to be included in his life. He touched the lives of everyone he met.
A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date.

Filiberto Vallejos, age 74, a resident of Los Chavez, passed away on Friday, April 19.
He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan B. and Elena Vallejos; sisters, Lilly Trujillo and Theresa Fertie; and brother, Arcenio Vallejos.
Filiberto is survived by his sisters, Emma Baca, Isabel Caire, Lucy Guzman and husband, Gilberto, and Ramona Moya and husband, Paul; and brother, Freddie Vallejos.
All services were held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 24. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Josephine Baca and Annamarie Dulgado. Honorary pallbearers were his brother, sisters and the rest of the family.
