Belen overpowers Grants 15-0, but falls to Miyamura, 16-1
After a 15-0 mercy rule win on Saturday at home against the Lady Pirates of Grants, the Lady Eagles lost their road game to Miyamura, 16-1, by the same rule.
"The win against Grants was of course a good one, I think we played consistent and well," Belen head coach Raymond Valerio said. "I think that was the first game we've played with no errors, so that was great."
Valerio said the Lady Eagles are working hard to improve with every game, and see each win or loss as a learning experience.
Belen traveled to Gallup on Tuesday for a district contest with Miyamura High School. The Lady Eagles were unable to keep up with the Lady Patriots, falling quickly in the first inning.
"They hit us hard, and we got into a deep hole early," Valerio said. "They are a good ball club, and when you fall early like that it's going to be rough."
Belen's only run of the game came off an Alexis Maese single, to bring in Agusta Amaro.
The loss puts Belen at 9-14 on the season and 2-7 in District 6-4A play. The Lady Eagles have one more district game to go before the end of the season, against county rival Los Lunas.
"We take every game as a learning experience," Valerio said. "We just have to be patient, take the lumps this year, and build on that."
