David Lee Christie
1929-2013
David Lee Christie, age 83, a resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, May 6.
Services will be held at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel on Friday, May 10, beginning with a viewing at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Masonic funeral at 10 a.m.

Rachel Jaramillo
1937-2013
Rachel Jaramillo, age 75, born on July 4, 1937, was called up to join Our Lord on Monday, May 6.
Rachel was a lifelong resident of Valencia County and a member of San Clemente Catholic Church. She will be remembered by her love for our Lord, her family and friends.
She greeted everyone with her bright smile, warm hugs and heartfelt laughter. Rachel is also remembered by her many talents, one of which is her numerous, colorful, hand-made quilts she generously gave as gifts. Her kitchen was a magnet to all who enjoyed her tantalizing home-made tortillas, tamales and her ever-flowing pot of coffee; you never left her home hungry.
She was preceded in  death by her parents, Frank and Beneranda Lopez, of Jarales; son, Phillip Cervantes, of Belen; nephew, Bobby Lopez Jr. and niece, Rachel Lopez, of Augusta, Ga.; and great-nephew, Daniel Lopez, of Los Lunas.
She is survived by her daughter, Randi Duran and husband, John; grandson, Carlos and wife, Amanda; and great-grandchildren, Carlos Jr., Jeremiah and Kaelyn; grandson, Richard and wife, Kristen; daughter, Becky Baldonado; granddaughter, Analisa; Josephine and husband, Dr. Tommy Roe; granddaughter Gabriella; grandson, Cody; brother, Bobby Lopez and nephew, Leonard Lopez, of Augusta, Ga.; brother, Fermin and wife, Angie Lopez, of Los Lunas; nephews, Fermin Jr. and wife, Andrea Lopez, Al and wife, Kellie Lopez, Henry and wife, Olivia Lopez, and Dominic Lopez. She is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews, Alicia, Raquel, Marisa, Sara, Gabriel, Diego, Michayla, Andrea, Damien, Sonja, Elena, Nicole, Samantha, Leanne and Isaac; and great-niece Dee Dee.
Services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church on Thursday, May 9, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., and a reception at San Clemente Parish Hall. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Merlene Johnson
1928-2013
Merlene Johnson, born Dec. 17, 1928, passed away April 29.
She was born in Wellington, Kan., to Albert Coy Yount and Doris Hinchcliffe Yount, moved to Clovis in 1936. The family moved to Belen in December 1939, and she married Charles Robert (Bob) Johnson on Nov. 15, 1949.
She had three children, Robert (Butch), Susan (Suzi) and Richard (Ricky), who preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1980. Her husband, Bob, preceded her in death June 1, 2000.
She is survived by a son, Butch and wife, Sharon; daughter, Suzi and husband, Tom Parks; two granddaughters, Sandi and Christin; one sister, Helen Eichman; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She accepted Jesus as her Savior in October 1950. She was a charter member of Sierra Vista Baptist Church, which she and Bob helped start in 1962. She was active in Woman’s Missionary Union and served as president from 1990 until about 2011.
She served as treasurer and music director when the church started in 1962 and held those jobs until 2013.
She retired from Belen Consolidated Schools in 1990, where she was a secretary for 23 years. She was a member of the Sunshine Extension Club, Valencia County Christian Women organization and served on the board of the Belen Area Food Pantry from 1990 until 2011.
Her body has been donated to the University of New Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sierra Vista Baptist Church, P.O. Box 289, Belen, N.M., 87002.
Memorial services will be at Sierra Vista Baptist Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18.

Eloy Sanchez
1931-2013
Eloy Sanchez, age 82, a resident of Los Lunas since 1986, passed away on Wednesday, May 1.
He was born in Monticello, N.M., on April 12, 1931, to Adrian and Adelfina Sanchez. Eloy proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances (Montano); sisters, Escolastica Ortega and Elsie O’Cana; brothers, Fred and Dan Sanchez; niece, Patricia Alvarado; and nephew, Joe Torres.
Eloy is survived by his sister, Sally Torres; sons, Richard Sanchez and girlfriend, Margie, and Fred Sanchez and fiancé, Joy; daughter, and son-in-law, Joanna and Mark Leonard; his grandchildren, SFC Richard Lee Sanchez and wife, Heather, Valerie, Adrianne, Aaron Sanchez and Dakota Leonard; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Alexa and Ava Sanchez; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, May 11, at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Ave., beginning with a visitation at 12:30 p.m., a Rosary at 1 p.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m.
A reception will follow the Funeral Mass in the San Clemente Parish Hall. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 13.
Pallbearers will be Richard Lee Sanchez, Jr., Aaron Sanchez, Caleb Sanchez, Victor Padilla, Sosteno Kline and Eusebio Cordova.

Clelia Shumway (Frittelli)
Died 2013
Clelia Shumway (Frittelli), age 90, a resident of Los Lunas for more than 40 years, passed away on Monday, March 25.
She is survived by her three children, Kenneth J. Shumway Jr., of Monroe, La., Nancy Shumway, of Los Lunas, and Sandra Scott, of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shumway was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Jack Shumway. Clelia Frittelli was raised in New York City, the daughter of Italian immigrants. She served in World War II as a member of the Navy W.A.V.E.S.
Interment with full military honors was held at Santa Fe National Cemetery next to her beloved husband.

Tommie R. Trujillo
1928-2013
Tommie R. Trujillo, age 84, a resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, May 6.
She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church for more than 60 years and was a very devoted Catholic.
Tommie was born in La Joya, and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 1954. She was happily married to Adan Trujillo for 27 years. Tommie retired from Jaramillo Elementary School after 30 wonderful years of teaching children.
She continued to reside in Belen until her death, where she enjoyed gardening, trips to the casino and spending time with her family. Tommie was deeply loved by her family and will be in our hearts and memories forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred M. and Maria Agueda Romero; husband, Adan Trujillo; son, Daniell E. Trujillo; daughter, Jan Stevens; sister, Balconidez Tafoya; and sister-in-law, Lucy Romero.
Tommie is survived by her loving daughters, Margie Trujillo and husband, Pete, and Shirley McKnight and husband, Eric; grandchildren, Jacob and Paul Stevens, Laura, David, John, Mary and Chrissy Trujillo, Uriah Baldonado and wife, Larissa, Noel Jaramillo and partner, Enrique Duran, Tommierae and Adan McKnight; seven great-grandchildren, Cameron, Elyse, Grayson and Liam Baldonado, Heath, Addisyn and Amayas; sisters, Lorencita Salas, Griselda Radosovich and Mary and husband, Bryce Ekern; and brother, Eloy Romero.
A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 9, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 10, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at noon with Father Scott McKee presiding. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Trujillo, Uriah Baldonado, Noel Jaramillo, Adan McKnight, Eric McKnight and Enrique Duran. Honorary pallbearers will be John, Mary, Chrissy and Laura Trujillo.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of Tommie’s angels, Socorro Sosa, Patsy Cannons, Sandra Dominguez and Julia Chavez as well as the Presbyterian Hospice Team. Thank you all for love, prayers and support.
