Summertime fun in Valencia County
The city of Belen is hosting its summer recreation programs from 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, June 11 through Friday, July 19. Activities will be for children ages 5 to 13. Registration is $75 per child, which includes swimming every Friday, except July 5, all field trip admissions, arts and craft supplies and 88 hours of paid supervision..
For 5- to 8-year-olds, activities will be at Central Elementary School and at the Belen Middle School gym for children ages 9 through 13. Free lunches will be provided by the Summer Food Service Program.

The village of Bosque Farms will host a summer recreation program for youth ages 6-16, which will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, June 3 through Friday, July 26. Activities will be offered Monday through Friday, except on the July 4 holiday. The free program is open to residents of Bosque Farms and the town of Peralta and their guests.
The activities will be at the Bosque Farms Community Center park behind the center. Lunch and snacks will be provided by the village.
Registration packets and permission slips are available at the village office, and registration will be accepted up until 9 a.m., Monday, June 3, in the park behind the community center.
The program may require some small fees for special projects and parents will be responsible for paying their child’s way for any field trips.
Children can expect to participate in arts and crafts activities as well as other special activities such as dances and cooking classes.

The village of Los Lunas is holding two sessions of summer recreation activities. Both will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The first session will be Monday, June 10, through Thursday, June 27, and the second will be Monday, July 8, through Thursday, July 25.
Both sessions will be at Daniel Fernandez Youth Center and the cost is $40 per child. That fee includes field trips to local venues and into Albuquerque. Los Lunas Schools will provide free lunches to all children.
The summer programs are open to the first 300 children registered. Registration will be taken until all slots are filled.
To be eligible for the program, children must have completed kindergarten during the 2012-2013 school year and must provide a report card as proof of completion. Students up to the eighth grade may participate in the program.
Neither the village nor the school district is responsible for insurance coverage of a child. In case of injury or accident, the parent or guardian is responsible for any medical costs.
The program is a privilege, not a right, and children will be given one verbal warning that will be documented in the child’s file. After the verbal warning, they will be put on suspension and, if the issues persist, those children can no longer attend the summer recreation program. No refunds will be given.
For a child to participate in swimming, he or she must be self-sufficient in the water. It is not required to participate in the rest of the activities.
The village is not responsible for lost, broken or damaged personal property. It is highly recommended that children leave all electronics, such as cell phones, music players and gaming systems at home. For information call 352-7717
The town of Peralta isn’t sponsoring a self-contained day program for summer activities this year. Instead, the town is using part of its recreation funds to make movie and swimming passes available to local children. For information, call 869-2050.
