Fourth of July celebrations

........................................................................................................................................................................................

As we celebrate Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

Communities also come together to celebrate what freedom means to us, and this year is no different. Both Los Lunas and Belen will host events to commemorate the Fourth of July.

Los Lunas

The village of Los Lunas will celebrate Independence Day beginning with its annual Fourth of July parade, which begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The parade route is from the Valencia “Y” on N.M. 6 (Main Street) to Don Pasqual. Remember that all side roads will be closed during the parade. Remember to stand and take off your hats as local veterans pass by carrying the large American Flag.

The festivities will continue at 4 p.m. when the gates open at the Daniel Fernandez Memorial Park on N.M. 314.

There will be food, live music, including the Jerry Jaramillo and Brown Sugar band, Against the Grain, Valencia County Community Band and entertainment by Bust A Move Dance Center.

There will be free jumpers, including obstacle courses, bungee runs and a bouncing boxing ring.

Don’t forget the sporting events, such as the Home Run Derby, Men’s All-Start game, grass co-ed volleyball tournament and a horseshoe tournament.

Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Belen

The annual All American Celebration in Belen will be held from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday, July 6, at Eagle Park.
