1945-2013

Jo Lynn Compton, age 68, a resident of Belen, passed away on Sunday, July 28.
No services are planned. The burial will take place at a later date in Illinois.

Stewart Dowdy
1962-2013

Stewart Dowdy, age 51, passed away at home, surrounded by many loved ones on Tuesday, Aug 6.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He loved cars, sports, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Dowdy; and sister, Rebecka Dowdy.
Stewart is survived by his wife, Monica Dowdy; children, Robert, Adam, Faith, Chris, Brandon, Jasamine and Heavenly.
Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 9, at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, beginning with a viewing at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow at Mountainair Cemetery.

Penny Elliott
1943-2013

Penny Elliott, age 69, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away Monday, Aug. 5.
She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Vallero and husband, Mike, of Denver, Colo., and SuAnn LeClair, of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Nic Garcia, Cody Garcia, Julie Vallero and Jennifer Tullai; one great-grandson, Braiden Fish; brother, Bill Owen and wife, JoAnn, of Los Chavez; sister, Karen Owen, of Albuquerque; and one niece.
Services will be private.

Teresa Lynne Juarez
1964-2013

Teresa Lynne Juarez, 49, of Peralta, was accepted into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Friday, Aug. 2, with her husband and children by her side.
Terri was born Jan. 15, 1964, in Salinas, Calif., to Doug Smith and Stella Henry. She attended South High School in Bakersfield, Calif. She married Ruben Juarez on April 6, 1991, and resided in Bakersfield until 1993 before relocating to New Mexico.
Terri enjoyed singing and dancing, cheering on her favorite Nascar driver, Kevin Harvick, and she loved her Oakland Raiders. She looked for the good in everyone she met and had the gift of making each and every person feel special. Her pride and joy was her grandbabies.
Terri was known for her contagious and beautiful smile. She was an inspiration, not only to her family and friends, but to the patients she met while receiving treatment at the cancer center.
Facing her own battle, it wasn’t unusual to find Terri praying and encouraging other patients. She stood strong in her Christian faith. Even during this, her toughest trial, she never lost her faith.
Terri is survived by her husband, Ruben; daughters, Tiffanie Mauricio, Rochelle and Shae Juarez; grandchildren, Justice Tosh, Jaydon Juarez, Adam Villalobos, Genesis Flowers and Aidan Villalobos; parents, Stella Henry and Doug Smith (Angela); mother-in- law, Rachel Juarez; sisters, Dawn Smith, Robbie Valverde, LaChelle Henry and Juanita Henry; brothers, Lee (Kathy) Morey, Michael Smith, Doug (Brenda) Stout and Billy (Yolanda) Henry; brother- and sisters-in-law, Debbie (Dave) Castillo, Cynthia Juarez, Lydia Juarez, Mark Juarez and Aaron (Julie) Juarez; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Anthony Juarez.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ladera Nursing and Rehabilitation (specifically Patsy, Jordan and Daniel) for the exceptional care they provided during her final days, as well as the numerous family and friends for their outpouring of love and support.
Services will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, at New Beginnings Church in Albuquerque, 3601 Montgomery Blvd. NE, with a reception immediately following.

Michael Marchant
1949-2013

Michael Marchant, age 64, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 4.

Anthony Angel Tafoya
1983-2013

Anthony Angel Tafoya, age 30, a resident of Los Lunas and Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, July 26.
He was born in Belen, and raised in Los Lunas, where he graduated from high school at Century High. He loved his children and was attending CNM to better his education.
Anthony will be missed greatly. I love you my son; go with our Lord in peace, in Jesus’ name, amen.
Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Paul Tafoya; and grandfather, Johnny Tafoya.
He is survived by his five children, Anthony, Brett, Chyanne, Ayana and Donico; mother, Cathy Jordan; stepfather, Tracy Jordan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, at Westside Church in Los Lunas, following Sunday service.

Lisa Thompson
1965-2013

Lisa Thompson, age 47, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, with her family by her side at her home in Belen.
Lisa was born in Socorro to Lawrence Romero and Hazel Chavez. Her father was the former sheriff of Valencia County, and presently a Valencia County commissioner.
Lisa grew up in Belen and graduated from Belen High School, Class of ’83. She met the love of her life, Mike Thompson, on June 7, 1980, and the two instantly became best friends; it was the beginning of an epic love story.
The two married on Sept. 28, 1984, and began their great adventure, living in Hawaii, California, New Mexico and Japan. Throughout her more than 24 years as a military spouse, she was very active in volunteering. She was awarded Military Volunteer of the Year by the governor of California in 2000.
Lisa’s life radically changed when she responded to God’s calling in her life. She matured quickly in her faith. In the years following, Lisa became a missionary with Cadence International in Okinawa, Japan.
In 2006, Lisa and Mike were appointed as Hospitality House directors for the Hansen Christian Center. At HCC, Lisa quickly became a second mother to many in the military community.
She was well known for her quick wit, wisdom, loving kindness and excellent cooking.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Romero Jr.
Lisa is survived by her best friend and husband, Mike Thompson; her daughter, Jessica Safley, and her son-in-law, Kenneth Safley; mother, Hazel Chavez and husband, Dennis; father, Lawrence Romero  and wife, Carol; brother, Patrick Baldonado; sister, Elizabeth Lawren Romero; and stepsisters, Leona and Denise Chavez.
A visitation will be held at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
