A PRESENTATION of a dramatic performance piece, “Walt Whitman’s America,” will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus’ Student Community Center. Dr. Bruce Noll will deliver the presentation, composed entirely of excerpts from Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass,” which weaves together many of the poem’s themes.
AN ARTIST RECEPTION will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus Fine Art Gallery. There are 17 artistic pieces on display through Nov. 4 from New Mexico Artist Laura Wacha, who works with mixed media, papier-mache and sculptures.

THE CITY OF BELEN is looking for individuals who would like to compete for the 26th Annual Miracle on Main Street Electric Light Parade and Festival Snow Queen and Snow Princess Contest. The Princess contest is for individuals 12 and younger, and the Queen is for individuals 13 and over. All contestants must choose a qualifying sponsor, which is usually a non-profit or charitable organization. The contestant who raises the most money will be crowned queen or princess at the Christmas Festival on Saturday, Nov. 30, plus lead the parade that same evening. For information, call 966-2700.
