Prisoner escapes from Los Lunas PD custody
Los Lunas police are asking for the public’s help in locating a woman they say escaped from their custody on Tuesday.
LLPD arrested 28-year-old Mary Selmeczki on several confirmed warrants, one of which was on a charge of felony commercial burglary.
While being booked on Tuesday, Selmeczki asked for medical attention, which she received, and asked to be transported to the hospital. She was subsequently taken to the University of New Mexico-Hospital in Albuquerque.
A village officer followed the ambulance to the hospital so that she could be transported to the Valencia County Detention Center once she was treated and released from UNM-H.
While waiting to be seen by a doctor, the officer watching the woman stepped away from her room for a moment, according to a press release. It was at the point that Selmeczki walked out of her room and left the hospital, escaping from the officer’s custody.
When the officer, who has not been identified by the police department, noticed Selmeczki was gone, he immediately notified hospital staff and both the UNM and Albuquerque police departments.
Selmeczki was last seen walking west in front of the hospital and wearing a blue Dallas Cowboys shirt, black pants and black shoes.
She is described to be 5-feet, 5-inches tall, brown hair, green eyes and weighing about 105 pounds.
Police say Selmeczki has several active warrants, including for commercial burglary, larceny, trespassing, shoplifting and driving on suspended license.
Officers are also working on obtaining an addition warrant for the fourth-degree felony charge of escaping from the custody of a peace officer.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Selmeczki is asked to contact the Los Lunas Police Department at 839-3855, or Lt. Vince Torres at 440-3878.
