Luciano Baca
1975-2013
Luciano “Bud” Baca, age 38, a resident of Casa Colorada, passed away tragically on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Elena Torres Baca; sister, Bernice Baca; maternal grandparents, Escolastico and Noberta Torres; paternal grandparents, Ramon and Dolores Baca; brother-in-law, Larry Lucero; and sisters-in-law, Christine and Shirley Baca.
Luciano is survived by his children that he loved so very much, Tierra and her mother, Kelly, and Joaquin and his mother, Joanna; caring father, Juan Baca Sr.; siblings, Juan, Jr., (Maria), Ramon (Marilyn), Estefana Montoya (Gary), Robert (Roseanne), Josefita Sandoval (Ronald), Phillip (Lilia), Lori Martinez (Richard), Angela Lucero, Paul, Joe (Melissa), Carmelita and Brenda (Damacia); special nephew and niece, Carlos Montoya and Bernice Montoya y Chavez, who were like his brother and sister; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Services have taken place.

Frances Burkstaller-Goodson
Died 2013
Frances Burkstaller-Goodson, 91, of Belen, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Nov. 22.
She and her husband, Harry, raised their family in Roswell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Burkstaller; and her brother, Ben Childs.
Frances married Bernard Goodson, of Belen, in 2002. They were visiting family in Sun City West, Ariz., at the time of her passing.
Frances will be dearly missed and is survived by her two children, Linda Fleming, of Roswell, and Harry Burkstaller Jr. and Beatrice, of Houston, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Kila Hilman, of Santa Fe, Tally Hilman, of the Bay Area in California, Gideon Hilman, of the Bay Area, Russell Fleming, of the Bay Area, Ty Fleming, of Roswell; her sister, Hermie Davis, of Albuquerque; friend and caretaker, Carol Rael, of Belen; her husband, Bernard Goodson, of Belen; and his children, Patty Goodson, of Sun City West, Ariz., Vi Todd, of Peoria, Ariz., Eillen and Dick Godsey, of Kansas City, Mo., and John and Cindy Goodson, of Belen; his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Frances at a later date in New Mexico.

Morgan Thomas Greer
1971-2013
Morgan Thomas Greer, age 42, a resident of Belen, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6.
He is survived by his parents, Brian and Louise Greer; sisters, Summer Larios and Kristen Donaldson; longtime sweetheart, Amy Woodall; and one nephew, Cole Donaldson. He will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Belen Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Cynthia Hall
1955-2013
Cindy “Mema” Hall (Cynthia Susan Brennan Bruder Hall), age 57, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 23, at her home in Los Lunas.
Cynthia was born to the late Katherine and William Brennan on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1955, in Newark, N.J. She went on to raise her family in New Port Richey, Fla., and retired in Los Lunas.
Cindy lived an amazing life and is survived by her husband, Avery Allen Hall; children, Frederick Hall, Tara and Aaron Benninger, and Samantha and Michael Buchanan; sister, Laurie Granados; nieces and nephew, Jacquelyn, Caroline, Jennifer and Jason; and a proud Mema to six grandchildren, Aaron, Madison, Paige, Alexander, Kali and Kara. She will also be deeply missed by many others.
A celebration-of-life gathering will be held for family and friends in New Mexico and Florida at a later date.

Dorothy M. Lane
1918-2013
Dorothy M. Lane, age 95, a resident of Belen, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Milton H. Lane; and her sister, Marguerite Parker.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Terry and wife, Nan, of Bosque, and Pat Straight and husband, Wayne, of Oregon City, Ore.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Katie and Dottie Lee.
All services were held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 7. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Anthony Michael Olguin
1963-2013
Anthony Michael Olguin, age 50, a lifelong resident of Belen, passed away on Monday, Dec. 9.
Anthony (Tony), Gentle Giant, you will be missed very much.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer N. Olguin; son, Nathaniel V. Olguin; grandson, Orion K. Romero; ex-wife and friend, Diane Olguin; parents, Roger and Rosie Olguin, Rudy and Rebecca Jaramillo; four brothers, one sister, along with the entire Olguin and Jaramillo families, with many close friends that loved him very much.
Services will be Saturday, Dec. 14, at First Baptist Church of Belen, beginning with a viewing at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Nathaniel, Carlos, Ronnie, Norbert, Danny and Frank.  Honorary pallbearer will be his special friend, Jennifer.

Ruth Valles Olivas
1963-2013
Ruth Valles Olivas, age 50, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
She was a bilingual educator with the Los Lunas Schools, and a fifth-grade teacher at Desert View Elementary.
Ruth was a lifelong learner, and recently completed her coursework for a master’s degree at the College of Education at the University of New Mexico.
Her successes in New Mexico and her home country have been an inspiration to Mexican-American women everywhere. Always a loving mother, she enjoyed traveling and meeting for long coffee breaks with her two daughters, Nara and Divana.
She will be dearly missed as a teacher, role model, friend, and mother to us all.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, seven brothers and sisters and her loving mother.
A viewing will be held at the Noblin Funeral Service Los Lunas Chapel from 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held at Rutilio’s restaurant in Los Lunas from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14.

Mela Otero Perea
1930-2013
Mela Otero Perea, age 83, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away at Belen Meadows Nursing Home on Saturday, Dec. 7.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Mela was retired from Los Lunas Schools, where she was a baker for 25 years. She was also a grandma with the foster grandparent program at Katherine Gallegos Elementary. She loved working with her school kids.
Mela was always working on her yard, cutting weeds and working with her roses and flowers. She loved flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rumaldo and Louisa Ortega Otero; husband, Johnnie Perea; son, Michael Perea; and three brothers, Lesmen, Raymond and Rumaldo Jr.
Mela is survived by her loving children, Tranquilino, Berto, Ruben and wife, Renee, Johnny Jr., Leonard and wife, Betty, Ofelia Diaz and husband, Johnny, Catherine Jojola and husband, Pat; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucy LaPorte and husband, Richer; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Otero. She is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
All services were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Interment followed at Valencia Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her sons, Tranquilino, Berto, Ruben, Johnny Jr., Leonard, sons-in-law, Johnny Diaz, Pat Jojola and Armando Reyes.
The family would like to thank the staff at Belen Meadows, Foster Grandparents Program in Los Lunas and the staff at Katherine Gallegos Elementary and Dr. Joseph Aragon and his staff.

Laura Powell
1919-2013
Laura Powell, age 94, a resident of Belen since 1962, peacefully passed away on Friday, Dec. 6.
She was born in Spokane, Wash., on Jan. 7, 1919, and was raised in Harlem, Mont. Laura married LeRoy Powell in 1948 and together raised four children. She was a devoted housewife and a wonderful mother.
Laura worked beside her husband, first on the farm and then in the family business, Powell Landscaping. She loved her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; parents, Hans and Mabel Peterson; brother, Erling Peterson; an infant son and daughter.
Laura is survived by her daughter, Charlene Moore and husband, Dorsey, of Los Lunas; three sons, George Powell, of Los Lunas, Victor Powell and Sharon, of Albuquerque, and Ernest Powell and wife, LaDonna, of Corpus Christi, Texas; four loving grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous loving step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister, Blanche Jobes of Chehalis, Wash.; niece, Karen Harrison; and nephew, Jerry Jobes Jr.
All services were held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Dec. 9. Interment followed at Terrace Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andy Powell, JT Hays, Gerald Chilimidos, Jarred Chilimidos, Clay Cox and Chuck George. Honorary pallbearers were Terry and John Moore.

John Lawrence Roberts    
1944-2013
John Lawrence Roberts, age 69, a resident of Belen, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8.
He was an elder in the Community of Christ Church, Valencia County Master Gardener and had been a docent for the Botanical Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Evelynn Roberts; two sisters, three brothers and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Twylla; children, Joni, Arminda (Doug), Kristi (Arika), John (Jennifer) and adopted son, Damon; and his grandchildren, Tony, Damon, Trinity, Cooper, Douglas, Easton and Mia.
Services will be held at the Community of Christ Church, 4701 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14. This will be a celebration of John’s life, so please wear bright colors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Albuquerque Humane Association or Community of Christ Juan Tabo Branch.

Helen Salas
1931-2013
Helen Salas, age 82, a resident of Los Chavez, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Helen enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. She also loved cooking for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Salas; parents, Ramon and Martita Gabaldon; grandson, Jeff Salas; in-laws, Fermin and Maria Louisa Salas; six sisters and three brothers.
Helen is survived by her children, Louie and wife, Mary, Ramona and husband, Lawrence, Geraldine and husband, Lupe, Ricky, Dennis and Louisa and husband, Andrew; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Lucy Cordova; and brother-in-law, Fermin Baca.
All services were held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment was held at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Kevin and Calvin Sanchez, Miguel and Fernando Aguirre, Gabriel and Ricky Salas Jr. and Andres Gabaldon. Honorary pallbearers were be Sheryl and Jamie Salas.

Larry “Joe” Tietjen
1931-2013
Larry “Joe” Tietjen, age 82, born Oct. 7, 1931, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Son of Thomas Jefferson Tietjen and Edna Beatrice Berryhill Tietjen is proceeded in death by his brother, Wallace; father, Jeff; sister, Sheryl; and mother, Edna.
He is survived by his children, Tammy A. Tietjen, J. Lee Tietjen, Joseph E. Tietjen, (Tina), Tara N. Porter, (Sean), Lila J. Smiel (Scott); and stepchildren, Julie A. Ledbetter and Janet L. Anderson (Mark). He is also survived by grandchildren, Sebastian and Britnee Tietjen, Clayton and Collin Anderson and Tabitha and David Smiel.
A viewing will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 160 James Court, Los Lunas, with a funeral at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Datil, N.M.
