Emma S. Aragon
1930-2014
Our beloved Emma S. Aragon, age 83, a resident of Belen and Buckeye, Ariz., went to follow her spiritual path on Monday, Feb. 17.
She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Buckeye, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe B. Aragon; parents, Enrique Sanchez and Severa G. Sanchez; and many dear loved ones.
Emma is survived by her loving family, Gloria R. Aragon, Vicky and Terry Ulibarri and Robert Aragon; grand-loved ones, Lisa Gallegos and Terrence O’Connor, Cindy and Jorge Garcia, Angela and Kenny Garcia, Alicia and Chris Garcia, Joshua and Alex Aragon and Jamiee Lynn Aragon; great-grandchildren, Zachery O’Connor, Steven and Hailey Garner, Junior, Araceli and Arianna Garcia, JonMykel and Anagrace Garcia and Jackson Aragon. She is also survived by her brothers and sister-in-law, many loving nieces and nephews and many, many loved ones, whose lives she forever touched.
You will be eternally missed Gram “Governor” Emma.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 24, with a viewing at 9 a.m., a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Felix Gabaldon
1946-2014
Felix Gabaldon, age 67, a resident of Sabinal, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16.
All services were held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Wednesday, Feb. 19, with Father Stephen Schultz presiding.
Interment will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

Atsu Minobe Hollister
1932-2014
Atsu Minobe Hollister, age 81, a resident of Belen, passed away at her home on Sunday, Feb. 16.
A service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at Noblin Funeral Service.  A viewing will begin at noon.

Lucy G. Maestas
1926-2014
Lucy G. Maestas, age 87, a resident of Belen, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15.
She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Along with her husband, Salomon, she was a contributing member of the Valencia County Sherriff’s Posse, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.
Lucy and Salo were self-employed and through their business they helped many families throughout the community. Lucy was rarely seen without her husband, Salo, with who she celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Their anniversaries were very special to her and they celebrated with family and friends in a grand manner. The joy of her family brought them together in her home for Sunday dinners, holidays, birthdays and any special occasion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Mary B. Sanchez Gabaldon; daughter, Katherine; and brother, Herman Gabaldon.
Lucy is survived by her loving husband, Salomon; son, Joe and wife, Flora; daughters, Joyce Ashner and husband, Ken, and Jane Tafoya and husband, Gilbert; sister, Carmen Sanchez; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 21, beginning with a visitation at 11 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Urn bearers will be Jane Tafoya and Carmen Sanchez. Honorary urn bearers will be her grandchildren, Natalie Armstrong, Todd Maestas, Kelly Trujillo, Gilbert Tafoya, Dwayne Tafoya, Tammy Aragon, Julie Apodaca and Adriana Sanchez.

Bertha Ornelas
1934-2014
Bertha Ornelas, age 80, a resident of Belen, passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on Friday, Feb. 14.
She was the daughter of Prospero and Refugia Orona Silva. Bertha was born in Belen on Jan. 1, 1934, and lived most of her life in Belen. She graduated from Saint Mary’s Catholic School and Belen High School, where she played clarinet in the band.
She married Simon in 1968 and was able to live in Germany and Ft. Benning, Ga., as an Army wife. The family settled in Belen after Simon’s retirement from the Army to raise their family.
Bertha was active in the Catechism program and the choir at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church as well as The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and enjoyed music and dancing. She was often heard singing “Beautiful Dreamer” and religious hymns. Bertha enjoyed attending Belen Eagles sporting events as a lifelong fan.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend and will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
Bertha is survived by her loving husband, Simon; son, Andrew and wife, Laura; daughters, Julie and husband, Jeffery, and Elizabeth and husband, Charles; sister, Felomena Moya; brother, David Silva; grandsons, Zachary Ornelas, Questen Morris and Anthony Castillo; granddaughters, Olivia Ornelas, Elise Morris and Julia Castillo. She is also survived my many nieces and nephews.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A final visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the Parish Hall.

Maria Saiz
1934-2014
Maria Saiz, age 79, a resident of Los Lunas, went home into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
She was a very gentle, loving and affectionate sister and aunt, who touched the hearts of everyone she knew. She extended love, care and kindness to many generations of nieces and nephews.
Maria worked at Avonite and enjoyed bingo, music, dancing, bowling, crocheting, arts and crafts and being surrounded by her family. Her smile lit up every room she entered and is dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leandro and Dorotea Lovato Saiz; brothers, Manuel and Gille; sister, Priscilla Vallejos; nephews, Michael Gutierrez and Clyde Silva; niece, Diana Vallejos; and her beloved pet, Bandit.
Maria is survived by her loving sister, best friend and life-long companion, Eutimia Jaramillo; sister, Vicky Carlton; her devoted niece and caregiver, Betty Gutierrez and husband, Ralph; adoring niece, Tina Silva; loving great-nieces, Annabelle Moya and husband, Flo, Dee Garcia, Trish Gutierrez, Janet Silva and Vivian Vallejos; her nephews, Larry Vallejos, Victor Vallejos, Jeff Silva and wife, Gina, Jimmy Silva and wife, Connie, and Chris Silva; great-great nieces, Josephine Silva, Felicia Rae Garcia, Heather Silva and Marissa Silva; great- great-nephews, Ramon Vallejos, Thomas Moya, Derek Silva and Ryan Silva.
All services will be held at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, Feb. 22, beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m., with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date.

Gavina Sanchez
1918-2014
Gavina Sanchez, age 95, a resident of Belen, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16.
She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom T. Sanchez; parents, Jose de la Cruz and Maria Castillo Salaz; daughter, Joann Silva; daughter-in-law, Eloisa Sanchez; sister, Sally Sanchez; and brother, Doroteo Salaz.
Gavina is survived by her loving son, Tom G. Sanchez; son-in-law, George Silva; grandsons, Thomas Sanchez, Eric Sanchez and George Silva Jr.; great-granddaughters, Isabella Sanchez and Sophia Sanchez. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
All services were held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 18 with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Thomas Sanchez, Eric Sanchez, George Silva Jr., Danny Sanchez, Fred Raether and Paul Chavez.
