County track teams off to running start

All three big school track squads began the season Saturday with the Los Lunas Invitational at Los Lunas High.

On the boys side, Belen edged out host Los Lunas for third place, beating the Tigers 55-50. Valencia came in sixth in the six-team field, scoring 46.5 points.

Hope Christian of Albuquerque won the boys team title, out-scoring Moriarty 71-56.

On the girls side, the Jaguar girls were the top county school, amassing 65.5 points to finish, in third just behind second place Hope Christian.

Los Lunas finished fifth with 37 points, while Belen scored 19.5 points to come in seventh in the seven-team competition. OƱate of Las Cruces finished in first with 97.5 points.
