LLHS take second, senior qualifies
The Los Lunas boys golf team came in second place at the Grants Invitational Golf Tournament Monday at the Coyote del Malpais Golf Course in Grants.
But more importantly, the Tiger boys qualified a third golfer for the upcoming State Golf Tournament as senior Colby Kerr shot a 77 to finish second in the tournament. Eighth-graders Dylan Gonzales and Chetsen Browning, who are already qualified for the state tournament, shot a 78 and 79, respectively, and Gabriel Gamboa added a 93 to give Los Lunas a 327, three strokes behind tournament champions Farmington.
Girls team members Mary Zamora and Teige Zeller shot a 106 and 125, respectively, for the Tigers.
The Valencia boys team came in fourth with a total of 364 and we led by Tim Turnbow, who shot an 86. Jason McClung was the Jaguars’ second best finisher for the day with a 92, while Cody Chapman and Zach Lalonde each shot a 93.
On the girls side, Emily Garcia shot a 97, while Sam LaFebre shot a 115 and Lori Foschent shot a 135 for Valencia.
Both LLHS and VHS are part of the field playing in Belen High School’s Abbie Paiz Invitational being played today at Tierra del Sol Golf Course in Rio Communities. Tee off time for the tournament is 9 a.m.
