LLHS’ Inman signs to play volleyball for Pioneers
Los Lunas High senior outside hitter Katie Inman signed her name on the dotted line Thursday, committing to play volleyball for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
The Pioneers play in the Sooner Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate, the equlvalent of NCAA Division II.
Wayland Baptist coach Jim Giacomazzi said he was intrigued by Inman’s play when he saw her in Albuquerque in the fall.
“We just lost a left-handed hitter to graduation, so I felt she would fill a need we have on the right side,” Giacomazzi said. “We invited her to come workout with the team and the girls just fell in love with her.”
Wayland Baptist finished 36-7 last season and took third place at the NAIA National Championship Tournament in December.
The 6-foot-1 Inman helped lead the Tigers to an undefeated District 6-4A season and the league championship as well as the quarterfinals of the Class 4A State Tournament in November,
“I had a lot of interest from schools in New Mexico, but I like this school because the classes are small and they players are a lot like my team (at Los Lunas).”
LLHS coach Amy Bell said she felt Inman would excel at WBU for many of the same reasons she was successful at Los Lunas.
“Katie is a leader. She has great court-awareness,” Bell said. “She’s hits and blocks really well. We’re really excited for her and looking forward to the opportunity to see her play at the collegiate level.”
