We’re here for you Elon Musk

Dear Elon,
We can call you Elon, right? We know others have written to you, trying to make a case as to why their community is the best location for your new Tesla giga-factory. You’re probably wondering why we are treading already beaten ground, but nothing ventured nothing gained, right?
We are asking you to consider Valencia County for the home of your new factory. Plain and simple, we are the ideal location.
Think about it. The county is neatly bisected by one of the most well-traveled interstates in the country. Our very own city of Belen is the Hub City, teeming with BNSF freight train traffic that shuttles goods from shore to shore.
We’ve become a bit of a destination hot spot for solar energy fields, thanks to our plentiful plains and ample sun. And all that energy isn’t very helpful without high-voltage power lines to carry it to the grid, now is it?
Valencia County is home to the Belen Alexandar Municipal Airport, which recently received federal funding for a runway expansion. And if you’re looking for something a little less industrial, the Mid Valley Airpark offers you the opportunity to park your plane in your own garage, just steps from your kitchen.
Just to the north is the biggest city in the state, Albuquerque, that is still in many ways, a small town chock full of everything from art museums to baseball. Beyond that, is the city different — lovely Santa Fe, rich in art and heritage.
If you turn to the south, you will find Socorro and one of the nation’s preeminent technical schools, New Mexico Tech. The very modern Very Large Array is a short drive away, along with the ancient Camino Rael.
All these wonderful resources are here, in and near our community. But we, here in Valencia County, are so much more than our infrastructure.
We are a community that never says die, with heart and passion. We are artists and conservationists, farmers and bankers. We are educators and students, thinkers and dreamers.
But no matter who we are, we all share one thing — the willingness to work to make our community better, to make our mark on this world in a positive way. We are a small place compared to many, but in the immortal words of Dr. Suess, “We’re here, we’re here, we’re here!”
We are here and we are ready for you.
