Ruben served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves as a senior chief hospital corpsman. Both attended Miami Dade College in Florida. The Collado family moved from Florida to New Mexico in 1976 where Ruben worked for the Public Health Service for 35 years until he retired. He was appointed a member of the Board of Nursing by Gov. Toney Anaya and served from 1985 to 1989. He is now active in several veterans organizations.

Anne retired from the Bell telephone system as a technical assistant in the engineering department. She worked at New York Bell, Southern Bell in Florida, Mountain Bell in Gallup and US West in Albuquerque. She now volunteers at the Museum of Natural History and Science, is a member of the Legion of Mary at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and belongs to several dog, doll and mineral clubs.

Both are active with their dogs, showing their komodor and puli, now taking them on the road in their R.V.
